MA missions are slowly returning to Aces High! I will once again be running a strat run mission on Friday 04-17-20 in the main arena. Targets will be announced at 1930 here on the BB. We will be launching with as many B17Gs as we can to provide some much need cloud cover / relief for either Bishop or the Rook strats. I hope we can get as many people as possible to take part. If you have any suggestions on how to improve said mission please let me know. If you are looking for something fun for you and your squad to take part in then feel free to hop in on the fun as a group! (Friendly Or Hostile) Relevant information will be posted below.
Notice: If any Fighter Squadrons would like to fly escort for the Bombers (Knights) please PM me on the BB or in game and let me know. Buffs are tough, however buffs with little friends are scary.
--Mission Start Times-- Mission Start Time 2000 EST (Mission #2 will not be running this Friday)
If you have any questions hit me up with a PM on the fourms or in game.

PS:
Mass missions like this are what what make Aces High so unique and keep me paying my monthly tribute to Hitech. If we can keep growing out missions (of any kind) to something of an "dude this looks crazy!" scale we might just rope on a few more people. I personally sit on the fence, but as stated above the potential scale of combat is unrivaled and keep me on the hook. <S>FBTrev95/Riftval

(Not being attached to a specific Chess piece means I can help balance AND avoid equipment denial ..... and participate in fun spur of the moment 'events' like this if I want.)

Thanks how stuff, I realized during editing that you and svaalbar had matching skins. That might be a cool way to set up different clusters of bombers. <S>

Trev unfortunately I didn't participate last night and am sorry I missed it. You have brought something back to the game that was missing in the MA. I applaud you for that. Bringing the community together for a re-creation of what actually happened during WWII. As many know here I am a History Junky especially 8th Air Force and particularly the 56th FG. I also have read on the Luftwaffe, singular histories of the 109, 190 and the Luftwaffe in general in books such as 6 months to oblivion, the German Aces Speak, 1000 destroyed, Robt. Johnson's' 1959 book Thunderbolt just to name a very few in my Library.
I thank you for your efforts. They are much appreciated by many. Now........we just need to get an organized fighter defense to intercept your missions to bring even more realism to your fun assaults.
Carry on Trev. Fun stuff. :salute Wouldn't it be fun to see squadrons of 109s' and 190s' and the proper escorts of 51s', 47s' and 38s'and tangling in the skies with the Bombers? It can be organized and can bring a lot more to your events.

I had great fun intercepting this raid! Flew a P-47M for my initial/failed attempt, and then wisely upped a TA-152H for ~5 kills before I got waxed. Great fights all, thanks!!!

I don't know if we want to make a separate thread for this, but I suspect the problem with WINGMAN mode is due to a high gain or not enough fine control. When I engage WINGMAN mode, the pilot stick can bounce back and forth violently, causing the plane to be unstable at worst. Due to this high gain, I think the "problem" of not being able to maintain position/speed with the lead aircraft we encounter due to WINGMAN mode is due to this oscillation, slowly penalizing through induced drag and not flying a perfectly straight path.
So the question is... is there a file or command that users can modify or tweak the values to make the adjustments less violent? Then I think people will be able to maintain position with the lead aircraft much better.

The only time I recall this happening was when the "lead" was flying max power. Flying at the E6B's Cruise settings kept things in check quite easily.
Was your "lead" flying at max or cruise? :headscratch:

:aok Beat me to it! Works with bombers and fighters. As explained to me, even with REAL flight...the Wingman had to have more throttle to be available to maintain formation. So lead flys a bit lower throttle setting. It helps the group hold position better even in more turning :uhoh

It was easy to figure that it would be an issue if flying at max power when HTC first introduced it. I found that flying at E6B's cruise setting was the most ideal (for me) when leading a formation of bombers. The only time they would need to be aware is during bomb run. Unless going "full historical"*, when the others jumped into the bombardier's seat to "aim" it would "break" wingman. So they would need to make sure they got "settled" into cruise setting during bomb drop as to maintain somewhat of a formation during drop. It also made it easier to reform after since lead would be at cruise the entire time, allowing the others to throttle up and quickly get back into position.
*Note: By "full historical", lead would do all the lining up and aiming. Others would drop when he dropped without any lining up and aiming on their part. Really only viable against a town or strat though. Would be almost completely ineffective against a base unless you were dropping on it just to drop on it. :)

That has been worked out by several players in the last couple of years. Secret is for the lead bomber pilot to take 25% more fuel than the rest. All other players will be wingman control with no problems because the lead bomber will be heavier.
