Any other lefties switch to right handed setup for Hotas?
Just reloaded the game, and of course all the old equipment- me included, are worn out
I have always struggled with using a joystick and throttle on the base of the joystick, while trying to use views ,,, etc.
I have read that many lefties cut to the chase and just went with the standard righty set up and the learning curve wasn't too bad.
I need a new stick- current one spiking and isn't the best on the market. i am looking at my options and because I suck so bad anyway- wow getting old sucks - lol.. any other lefties who have made the switch and find it better-- worse?
Thanks

I run CH equipment and use a right hand fighter stick. Throttle with my left hand.
I am left handed.
-
Same here lefty on CH gear, it is what I am used to as the stick control planes I used to fly all had the throttle quadrant on the left.
-
Im ambidextrous so even tho Im use most things left handed switching to a right hand set up has never been an issue.
The TM16000 (http://www.thrustmaster.com/products/t16000m-fcs-hotas) stick can be setup as a lefty or righty. MARK4 is a lefty and is on his second unit over the years.

I was looking at the VKB Space flight stick yesterday. It looks like a great stick but it's like $380. This came in with left handed controller.
Not sure if I should by vkb stick or the TM hotas stick for $250...

I use the first ver. of the vkb gunfighter base with the MCG pro Grip and I really like it. VKB has a new left handed stick now and if you are left handed I'm sure you would like it. Pricey but worth it.

I am a lefty and have always used a right handed HOTAS. The only difference for me is that I map my views to a throttle hat switch. I think it helps my gunnery not pushing a view button while aiming with the joystick.
-
Good point edge. I have views and guns mapped to throttle. Pulling trigger on stick causes me to move stick enough to ruin shot.
My gunnery still sucks though!

thanks for the feedback people
I'm going to go ahead and dive in,, so I will probably still suck, but I will have a throttle control to adjust as I'm auguring in :)

It's just a normal stick with a throttle on it and fairly old but if you can find one in good shape the Saitek Cyborg gold was a great stick that you could change the hand rest and throttle on to be usable with the other hand. I still have mine after 20 years. Had to go in and fill the groove I wore into the hat switch stem with some ca glue and glue up the throttle lever after I snapped it off but the old beast is still usable lol. Made back when Saitek was a quality name. Have an X-52 Pro now made after Mad Cats took over and its all floppy and the LED screen flickers.... Really miss my original X-52 from when they first released them and were still a real saitek product.
I know it's not a Hotas but if you can't get the feel for the right handed setup it's an option and for me at least it was a comfortable stick that served me well.

I'm lefthanded, I switched both because Warthog are for righthanded, and also my flying club Eurocub's was throttle left, stick right hand, took a month to get used to it. TrackIR helped me with lokking around.

Same here. It was impossible to find a left handed stick 25 years ago.

Come to think of it I wonder why some manufacturers have come out with lefty sticks but not righty throttles for a true hotas setup for the lefties? You'd think it'd be easy enough to do simply mirroring the body of the thing as they had with the sticks. The guts are generally the same for both but would need similarly mirrored PCBs. Demand is the only thing that comes to mind. But they've done the sticks.

About time !!

the Thrustmaster T16000 allows you use it left or right handed. just switch the hand rest to the opposite side.

At first I thought this was a "coming out" thread with the true identity of Lefty59, like someone who runs a different BulletinBoard name and in-game ID :x
