Title: Song of the day from Arlo
Post by: Arlo on November 17, 2020, 11:37:00 AM
'Different Drum' was written by Monkee Mike Nesmith who pitched this song for the show but producers of the Monkees' TV show turned down the song. However, Linda Ronstadt transformed "A Different Drum" into her breakout moment. Her version with the Stone Poneys rose to the Top 20 in 1967. The Monkees never recorded their own take, though Nesmith made a belated solo pass in 1972.
I had a lifelong crush on her before I found my true love. Apparently she still hasn't found hers. Her Parkinson's diagnosis has been re-diagnosed to progressive supranuclear palsy (which is commonly misdiagnosed as Parkinson's). In either case, sadly, it ended her singing career. Never-the-less, love her still and the world is better for her.

Arlo, if you haven't already seen this documentary, I highly recommend it. So good to see her singing, and learn about her background, her career, her determination and the chances she took.

Gotta say I liked Linda's version better, but thanks to Michael for writing it.
Here's one for you - have you ever heard of the Mona Lisa Twins? They are sisters from Austria I think, and love the Beatles. This is one of the best covers I have heard of "Drive My Car"
