i have win7 on an old ssd, I just ordered a 1 tb ssd, thinking of installing win 10 there.
question is should I install win7 on the old ssd or the new one. i am gonna partition the new ssd but not sure how I would install win 10 there. still have the key for win7.

Not sure why you would still need win 7. You can use win 7 key to activate win 10 of the same flavor.

Quite honestly, it is rather dumb to run W7 and W10 portioned on same machine. What are you trying to accomplish? Is there a program you need that is only compatible with W7?
Do yourself a favor and just install W10 and move on from W7.

As Shuffler said, just install W10 using the W7 key. No need to install 7 first and update it to 10. If the old SSD is big enough, make that the C drive for Windows and the bigger one as one or two partitions for various stuff like data and games.

sorry I'm only keeping win 10. my question is if i create a partition on the new drive can i install win 10 later or is it easier to just install it on the current ssd i have.
I'm not installing win 7 on the new ssd. made a typo in my original post

I think I got it..... if you partition and start using a second, new ssd for storage, can you later install Windows 10 on it. If that is the question.... you can but you will lose all the items you stored.
If you want to use the new ssd as storage and later upgrade windows 7 on the other drive, it will still be able to see all the files and use all the programs on the second drive. That is if they were installed on windows 7.

thanks Shuffler, will just upgrade on my old drive, think that's easier.
