Could these be members of the 618th BS?

Post by: Drano on January 04, 2021, 12:55:13 PM: I agree with Fencer. Looks like the tail turret on a B-24. It's pretty distinctive as not many planes had that particular turret. Looks like the horizontal stab above and behind them so, guessing it's the tail. Some of the RAF bombers had a similar style turret.

that it's close but I dont think that it. rivets above the mag on the right match and 2 on the side, but the plexiglass or whatever you call it dont match. the angle on the mg is about the same but rivets on plexiglass are different.

edit: the 3 rivets on the mg match the picture but the 3 rivets also mark the angle of the downward part of the turret which doesnt match the picture.

I think the plexiglass is not shown in Nef's photo. Seems to match the lower portion of the turret pretty well.

i disagree look at the 3 rivets above the mg, they dont match to the angle on his pic

Angle in relation to what?

Those rivets even match their positions relative to the gun barrels. Two directly above the barrel and one outboard.

check the original picture then check the other picture the rivets on the first picture on the turrets doesnt go down as in the second picture.

Post by: Drano on January 04, 2021, 08:51:21 PM: And in some of the pics it looks like that main glass is armor glass not just plexi. Seems kinda thick anyway. I think I remembered reading some of the RAF tail gunners flying at night actually took that pane out for better visibility.
