Why do people have to post that they are going to leave AH? Why not just leave? Doe we really care why they don't want to fly anymore if we are still flying and having fun?
I just don't get it.

Spot on.

saying goodbye to friends.

I’d imagine for this and possibly a couple other reasons...
P38Ace: your BBS join date is April of this year. Are you a returning player? Countless players have made lifelong friends, close friends, and acquaintances we like to see in game and say hello/how ya been...
If you’re new you’ll probably make some too if you stay awhile, be courteous, respectful and help out your teammates...

I been playing on and off for a long time. There were times I was too busy or the game was too frustrating to play. Death starts, alt monkeys. Sometimes the game was like clubbing babby seals. And then there is the ENY problem! I quit sometimes but I never announced it. And I didn't annoucne when I came back.
I think some guys announce they are leaving because they want other guys to agree with them the game sucks, or it's no fun. I just don't see it that way. And I agree some guys are just saying goodbye.

What ever the reason, why not say goodbye? I think Rotbaron sums it up the best. :rock

It's both. When people like Shipper leave, it's letting the rest of us know that real life is the reason, and saying a fond goodbye.
There are others who announce their departure as a protest to some aspect of the game. We could do without those, I think.

when you leave a friends house, do you just get up and leave? or do you say goodbye for the attention?
how about because its the polite thing to do, and you have a lot of friends that might want to know.
shipper has been around a long time. the respectful thing to do is to wish him well.
if you dont approve of people saying good by, you could just keep your mouth shut. as the old saying goes, if you have nothing nice to say, dont say anything at all. at least 'what most "adults" do.

I agree with that.
I assumed OP was talking about these style of posts rather than leaving for actual good reason (eg. unable to play for one reason or another):

...and maybe, besides saying good-by to friends, they also feel the obligation to give HT some feedback as to why they leave. You certainly can´t cater to everyone´s whim, but if the overwhelming majority of people quitting do so for some simple-to-fix reason...wouldn´t it be good to know?

I think if you leave you forfeit your right to whine.

I said goodbye for one simple reason. I’ve been in aced high since 2009, and was playing in the days when there were at least 600 in at one time. I flew with the 353rd slybirds. I started in AvA not too much later. In that time, I’ve met some great players from all over the world. They became friends and all became family. I did this out of the same respect they showed me over the years.
I didn’t rage quit, nor would I. I don’t speak badly about others or this game. I try to get people to stay and come in here. I have loved the time I’ve been here and it killed me to say goodbye.
I hope the op can understand this.

In AH there is only 1 rule; Dont be a dick.
You're being a dick.
-
I would prefer a goodbye post rather than someone that may have been around a while just leave... Then I won't have to wonder whatever happened to so and so.. Just my preference

Bub and I have been wondering about Flk4, but no one so far seems to know.

That rule was violated by guys like you all the time on this BBS a long time ago! But feel free to call a kettle black! :devil

Then they should make their announcement on Facebook. Wouldn't that be a more attention deficient platform?

I and you guys too...refuse to let Shipper go! HELL NO! Have an Address for him? I would Single Handedly blow his mind!!! :rock

Exactly..... I've been gone for a bit. Have not canceled my account. Still supporting HT and crew. I just have not bought new controls since the freeze and the ceiling in my office caving in. I know I can stop in.... may be back.... may not. Good folks here..... once you see some other places you realize just how good they are here. LOL
Far better folks here. <S>

Nice to know you are still around Shuffler!! Hope all is okay with you and yours!

Shuffler I have 32 GB of ram and a motherboard with an i5-4690K, if you'd like it. You'd have to find a case, power supply, and graphics card. Hell, even if you arent in the mood for AH, maybe you can get some Red Dead Redemption 2 game time in :)

32gig of ram? holy cow. I thought I was doing good with 8gig. Does it make that much of a difference?
-
No. Aces High is incredibly well optimized. I run the game in 1440p on max graphics and I think it usually uses 1-2GB ram max. Not sure about VR. I always had large ram for video editing, photoshop, and general software development.
I'm going to be moving soon and trying to get rid of stuff. Anything that I can give to other AH players I'd prefer over my toejamty town I live in.
Its 4 sticks of 8gb, so I guess I could split it in two. I can mail you two 8gb sticks. DDR3 1866 Mhz

Thanks. I appreciate that but I'd rather them go to somebody who "needs" them. My rig runs ok :)

When we gonna go Stick some fools in WoR?

AH and previously, WB, have a community I that made me stay way longer than I would have, if it did not exist.
Travelling to EuroCon in Netherlands, met AH'er in Spain, Brittain (and US in WB) , have had guests in my home from places in Europe.
I have moved elsewhere with Loose Deuce squadron, friends I have met in WB and AH.

IMO having double the required RAM for a game is typically worth it. If it requires 4, have 8. If it requires 8 have 16. About the only thing I know of that "requires" 16 that I'm vaguely interested in is Star Citizen, and if I ever get into it hard enough I will likely upgrade to 32 although I'm pretty curious if I'll actually notice much difference in anything else.
In my experience every time I've gone to more RAM, regardless of what the stuff I was running at the time required it just ran better, less glitchiness overall no matter the program and obviously better ability to alt tab out of stuff and back. Most stuff I've been playing lately was recommended 8, I don't know that I'd gain much going from 16 to 32. It runs about the best I can imagine it at the moment and I don't get too far into seconds of load time or 5 more FPS changes.
YMMV.
