My family and I are moving to the Nashville, TN area.
Where I currently live, after Scenarios, I used to get together at the local pub with other AH players -- to regale ourselves with the many tales of aerial glory. :aok
Any other players in the Nashville area?
-
You may want to keep that stuff to yourself after you move to the south. You can talk about fishing and hunting and a meat & three vegetables, Waffle House, trucks and things like that. You'll get some pretty strange stink eye looks when you start talking about playing an on-line game that's not related to NASCAR.
(I spent a lot of time in Nashville and still have a Nashville cell phone number.)
:D
-
Ask about who that elvis feller is :D
-
Welcome to the Smokey mountains. I'm over in east Tennessee. Knoxville/Maryville.

It is NASCAR, with guns and one extra dimension. :aok
Rolex, what are your favorite foods around Nashville? I so far am looking forward to Nashville hot chicken, Krystal, BBQ, and whatever is the local favorite seafood (fried catfish?).

I hear it's beautiful there. :aok

Krystals was the cleanse diet before that term was invented

Going from Gods country to Country country? I don’t know. Congrats Brooke. You’ll like it there. Just remember the humidity is far worse than our states out west! Visit the Opry for me buddy! Have a very safe and uneventful trip!

I've had lots of White Castle, so I completely understand. :D
White Castle and so probably Krystal, too, are an acquired taste, like smoking.
From time to time in my life, a friend who didn't grow up with White Castle or Krystal, gives it a try for the first time. Almost always, the reaction is, "These are horrible!" But I and my pals who grew up with them love them. :aok
-
only had white castle once. frozen. some guy at work brought them to work. microwave a hot summer day with 20lbs of protective equipment. they tasted like heaven.

Thanks, Shipper! :aok
I hear you. I grew up in southern Michigan, with summer days the 90's with 90% humidity. Me, I like the climate of Washington. My wife isn't as keen on it, though, feeling that too much of the year is cool, overcast, and drizzly. She's spent some time in southern Missouri in summers, and likes that. Also, our kids like swimming, so a place with a longer swimming season is nice.
-
I recommend you first try Bojangles chicken and biscuits.
Then follow that up with Bojangles chicken and biscuits.

Semp, you are a gentleman of finely tuned discriminating taste. :aok
By the way, if you ever are around Nashville, you let me know, and I would be honored to take you out for dinner and beer, and even an after-dinner snack of a White Castle or Krystal. :aok

I will definitely do that! Thanks! :aok
Also, Rolex, if you are ever around the Nashville area again at any point, I would be very pleased to take you out for dinner and beer. :aok

And the same is true if you're ever in the Phoenix/Scottsdale area. 27 years in Japan was long enough for me...
You're going to like Nashville. I spent most of the time in the SW part - Belle Meade and farther south and west.
-
Krystal burger is a guilty pleasure, especially after a long time of drinking. Love that greasy stuff haha.
-
Brooke! You'll love Tennessee! My uncle lived in Memphis. I live in Ohio and I drive through West Virginia and Tennesse and am familiar with the Pigeon Forge area. IMHO West Virginia and Tennessee are the most beautiful states in the country! I even did the "Tail of the Dragon" in my Hellcat. Gorgeous and slow. :aok
-
Lived in Tennessee my whole life. You’ll love it here. All the seasons for weather. Beautiful views. Nice people. No state income tax.
Go vols. Go titans.

Hajo and Ace, if you guys travel by Nashville, and you want lunch or dinner or a beer or all of the above, let me know. :aok

I'm also looking forward to trying fried whiting fish, like at Ed's Fish House. I've never had that type of fish.

Don't really have no taste, worse than eating cod...just my opinion...now fried catfish and shrimp is the thing........
You are really not suppose to eat catfish or shrimp, lobster etc..pork/swine..it is the healthy food laws in the Bible...
But growing up in Lexington, NC (Davidson County) we gotta have our barbecue pulled pork, bacon and country ham..and eating venison nearly every day throughout the year...
Brooke, it's awesome to hear that you're moving to the volunteers state..I recommend you pick a place about 20 miles from downtown Nashville..somewhere like Henderson or out in the country...it's so laid back
I had started a reply earlier this morning before my daily Bible study I bet it had nearly a thousand words, I started thinking about when I was stationed at NAS Memphis and it was 976 miles from my parents drive way to the entrance gate at NAS Memphis..I would drive from home back to the base right at about 10 hours rofl
But my dang phone died and I lost it all...I bet I had jumped through 80+ life events hahaha
Cheers

Howdy, TC! :aok
You reminded me -- I need to try country ham. I don't think I've ever had that.
I see that Linwood, NC is about 7 hours from Nashville area. I'm going to have to meet up with you at some point. I can get you some BBQ! :aok

i love White Castle hamburgers--but some places been calling them sliders not in my house

Surprised nobody mentioned the Jack Daniel's distillery in Nashville.
I lived in Nashville up until just under a year ago. I still have my Nashville number too lol.
It seems that there are so many people moving there that you'll find the minority of people you meet on the street to actually from Nashville.

Gator is good. I also like crocodile which we get get from packaged farmed crocodile meat when we're in Thailand. I've also had whiting, and like that too.
-
i got family there and I'm tryna to volunteer on to work on a steam engine up there as well, so I'm around a lot!
-
Nate, I think you are the source of one of the funniest things that ever happened to me in AH.
I was in a GV of some sort -- forget what exactly, but it was armored. I had seen you flying around near me in an A-20, and then I lost sight of you. I went back to my GV fight. Soon, I started taking a lot of hits from something. I looked around frantically, and just before I died, I saw an A-20 on the ground behind me, pouring shots into me.
When I'm moved in, I'll PM you my mobile number, and if you are in town, call me, and I'll take you out to lunch or dinner. :aok

I just may take you up on that Brooke! If and when I'd like to take you and your family out to Dinner, on me of course!
In payment for all the joy and fun you've created for the MMOG WWII crowd. It would be my distinct pleasure!
You've been bringing people of the same ilk together for many years. You are deeply appreciated by many of us that had fathers and mothers serve this great country during that conflagration.
-
Thank you, Hajo, and a big <S> to you, my friend! :aok

Congrats Brooke and it's an exciting transition for you and your family. I grew up in Indiana and I do love White Castle. :aok

Hey Brooke, so how is that time-line going for your family moving to Nashville area....
Once you get there the both of us can work something out on meeting.... you can come here to Linwood ( Lexington, NC ), or I can come there to Music City 🎶...
Or we could split the difference and meet up around Pigeon Forge / Gatlinburg/ Cherokee surrounding areas somewhere...
Hajo, heh...so you took your car down "Dragon's Trail"...slow? To funny....I am almost positive you were getting on it some if only just a bit hahaha

Lotta good house games in Tn. Cherokee opened up a nice new poker room. Tunica MS also has a nice one. Love the game.
-
Yeah Spek, I just did hear about the one in Cherokee
Bad thing is that during Summer Vacation months that whole area gambling tables and other things are overwhelming crowded.....hard to even get a seat regardless of which day it is
Thanks for the tip regarding Tennessee 👍

I made it, and am now in Tennessee, our new home. The drive was a great adventure.

Congrats Brooke! Tennessee is almost like the PNW, just not quite as big of mountains. My aunt and uncle live there and enjoy it quite a bit. It should be a lot less crazy than Seattle and a lot more countryesk and simpler. The Autumn time is very lovely there.
My wife and I have decided to move as well. They just don't care enough in Portland to keep it clean and people are drugged up crazy. My wife is soo over it. The winters are tough too with the darkness. We are moving to FL. Will be tough for me as I have to quit my great job and start all over again for the 4th time in 7 years. Hers and my family both live there and we have friends there so it makes sense. That being said, if it were just me, Tennessee would seem like a better place as you get snow and winter and more of the seasons with a lot less traffic. (Plus lakes/streams with no alligators). I too am looking forward to the drive. (Lucky you that you didn't have to go thru GA to FL, that is the most boring part and ATL traffic can suck). Hopefully we can get outa here before it's too late :rofl Honestly I wished we lived in a better part of Oregon and stayed for a couple more years but oh well. Who the heck knows what's gonna happen in that time. We are nervous ole Nannie is gonna start clamping down and it's just too much stress on us. The housing market also worries me, so we want to get out while ahead.

Didn't realize you lived in Oregon, Violator.....
My birth place is Klamath Falls... just recently saw on the news where Klamath County was burning down 🔥

Is it really? How about that. We went to Klamath Falls last 4th of July 2020. Had a really fun time. Went to Crater Lake on the 4th. Really is something else to see. Wish we could have spent the night out there to watch the stars. The little town there is cute. But yeah the fires, another reason why we are moving. It's just sad. It's like they have all of this concern about air pollution and straws. But don't care enough about the land environment. I can't figure it out. The hazy smoked out skies are probably way worse than the car pollution. A shame what is happening. I do find it very suspicious how hot and quick these fires are completely destroying small towns. Just crazy.

Yeah unfortunately The US Forestry Service is under funded and undermanned....
Mom and Daddy moved out there from NC back in 67, while Mom was pregnant with me....I was born May 68 and Dad said basically every day he came home from work for Momma to pack up, we going back to NC...lol
Well he came home 1 day in 1971 and Momma was all packed up sitting on the front porch waiting on him....they moved (we) from Klamath Falls all the way across the US to Carolina Beach, NC.....I always get a kick out of remembering that stuff....
They took me back to see my birth place 2 times in my pre teens and then went once again after I got married and had my 1st daughter..

Violator, lots of crazy stuff going on in Oregon and Washington. I totally understand.
