I don't know if you could use this.  But it was very interesting to me.  Well worth the look even if you can't ID the noseart.  It's history.

Are those 17's still there?

They were all melted into aluminum ingots the size of a small wash basin or even a baking tin.  This documentary on the Confederate Air Force from 1982 shows how it was done.

I can't even click on that link.   Just to think of what those young men went through together in those planes.

The video only shows them doing it to postwar types but it gives you the idea of what the Colonels were facing trying to save these airplanes.
