One of the more colorful fighter pilots in the 8th AF, Jack Ilfrey's P-38J "Happy Jack's Go Buggy" is depicted as it would've appeared in May 1944, before black and white recognition stripes were added in preparation for the D-Day invasion in early June. Jack was shot down in this aircraft while strafing a train on June 12, 1944, but with the help of French partisans successfully evaded capture and returned to his unit, where he was somehow able to side-step prevailing doctrine and continued to fly combat missions.

Great work, Oboe.

What's the RGB of that yellow? I have not had good luck with those light and dull yellows and that shade looks great.
-
Thanks - the base RGB value is 179-141-76. I started with the yellow of the default P-38J skin, which is also from the 20th FG, and tweaked the saturation and brightness to account for the different Power and Spec values on a bare metal skin.

Sure thing - its so tough to determine what's right. The AH sun makes so much difference - you can see it here between the first and last pics how the shade is so affected by the bright sun...
