Title: P-40B AVG, 1st PS "Adam and Eve"
Post by: Devil 505 on September 26, 2021, 04:39:54 PM
Curtiss H-81a (Tomahawk Mk. 1 / P-40B) flown by Robert Neale of the AVG's 1st Pursuit Squadron, "Adam and Eve".  Neale was the highest scoring ace in the "Flying Tigers", credited with 13 confirmed victories. He was originally a dive bomber pilot in the U.S. Navy before resigning his commission to join the AVG. When the AVG was incorporated into the USAAF in July 1942, Neale declined the offer to join with the rank of major. He instead returned to the U.S. and flew transports as a civilian.

This aircraft was photographed in June 1942 at an AVG airfield in China. The right side of the fuselage features the emblems of the "Flying Tigers" (also on the left) and the "Adam and Eve" (not painted on the left). A thin white tail band also marks this aircraft as belonging to the 1st PS.
