Thanks to Lyric1 for finding me the info for this skin. I also skinned this scheme on the old shape P-38J, the thread for which is here (https://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,398442.msg5280789.html#msg5280789).
This is "Mama's Boy" the P-38J of Captain Edwin Wasil of the 55th Fighter Squadron, 20th Fighter Group. As part of the USAAF's 8th Air Force this group's main role was to provide fighter escort for heavy bombers. Increasingly though they were employed on ground attack missions and the 20th became known for their prowess in destroying trains. In June 1944 the group was tasked with providing fighter cover for Operation Overlord and their P-38s were painted in the distinctive black and white D Day stripes.

Most excellent.

Beautiful job, G.
I have a question about the black striping. On some of your planes there is a little bit more sheen to the black than this shows. Is this flatter paint intentional?

Another quality job done

USAAF jet black was a gloss colour so I usually set that colour to have a shinier finish in the lighting files. I didn't think to do it this time but I may do so before I submit it, thanks for pointing it out.

Really great work Greebo, it's almost like you could feel what it would be like to rub your hand along the engine cowling. Amazing texture work!
