Title: Messerschmits Are Best Served Cold

Bf 109G-6 of Stab. IV/Jg 51 in early 1944 while based at Uman, Ukraine. With the Red Army liberating Kiev and crossing the Dnieper River, German army unit became cut off in Korsun and Cherkassy. Commander of IV/Jg 51, Hans Ekkehard Bob, ordered his 109G-6's all be equipped with bomb racks to support the trapped ground troops and halt the Soviet army's drive into Western Ukraine. Despite brave actions such as those of IV/Jg 51 neither could the German troops be relieved or the Red Army stopped during the winter months.

This aircraft features an overall whitewash with theater national insignias, tactical markings, and fuel grade stencils painted over the whitewash. The crosses on the fuselage and upper wings even received the black out lines in the early war style for added contrast. Yellow theater markings are boldly applied to the spinner, lower cowl, real fuselage, rudder, and the outboard 1/3 of the lower wings.
