Title: Tax returns
Post by: fuzeman on October 13, 2021, 09:18:04 AM
Anyone still waiting for their federal tax return??
Yes I was totally stupid and mailed it in but they received it and I did get the receipt.
Guess I better talk to a human. The where’s my refund thing says information doesn’t match records but I triple checked that and I do put it in correctly.
Sure could use that $$$$$$

Mine was a year late last time. Government doing what it does best: incompetency.

Had to mail mine in this year also as something didn't validate when I tried to e-file...

It took about 5 months to receive it

Had to turn around and send mine back to the IRS after they sent me a bill for the two months of obamacare I had to signup for when my contracting gig went insurance free...though I never used it, I was under charged originally by about $1700 a month...and they wanted every penny...

Arrange your Taxes so you get no refund. They are withholding too much and getting to use your money interest free for a year. You could be putting that money in an investment instead.
This is not financial advice just common sense.  :salute

I used to enjoy getting a bit back from the feds. Now I end up paying somewhere between $100 to $200 when the taxes are done. I have them done in March. If the next year ends up costing a bit more I'll adjust the withholding again. I used to think about the bit about the govt using "my" money "interest free" and disregard that. Given how little interest is paid on even CD's now there really is no loss of interest.

I know of some people who have zero will power and blow there money before it comes in. At least with the gov. holding/using their money through the year they get a "bonus" check each year to bail them out.

People are spending their refund now as they are getting their child tax credit payments monthly...

It will be interesting as I think many do not realize this and are in for a shock next filing.

For some maybe, for me, by law I am forced to withhold 10% from my IRA withdrawals which of course
forces a refund... if u have a better idea... please tell me

I’m sure you don’t want me running low on funds this year, I’d only need a few hundred thousand? Spare change right? :aok

I would if I could but 20% is gobbled up by Uncle Sam as a withholding. I do get the option with state tax and do that.

Lately I’ve been good financially and ends meet after a few bad years of stupid decisions, like lending money to my sister  :(  :uhoh :headscratch:

I know its a necro-bump but this loose end fits in here nicely.

Well I got an appointment with  :old:  free AARP tax service and they electronically filled my 2021 return on 4 February. I have the IRS2Go app to check 2020 status and always received the ‘incorrect information’ reply which I understood to mean nobody had opened your return, yes I did mail it in, and entered some data from your return. So a week or so after the 2021 return gets e-filed I get a return in the app saying 2021 refund approved and bank should have it around 24 February. That makes me  :D and I when I check on both in App the 2021 gives me a date and the 2020 reply still says ‘incorrect information’ and so it goes. Wednesday morning it changes and both returns with ‘incorrect information’ and I’m WTF? The OCD kicks in until the app says I’ve used up all my inquiries for the day.
I happen to think one thing, maybe it got confused even though it requires return amount, which were different. Anyway cant check with app so check bank account and 2021 refund is in there.    and next day I get a we have received your 2020 return opposed to ‘incorrect information’ so it looks like the wait is over.

Drinks are on me!!!   :aok  :bolt:

Filed mine on the 27th of Jan electronically. Im still waiting. There is a "hold up" or in their words "your return processing has been delayed beyond the normal timeframe". It'll come eventually lol. They're in no hurry

Ya I have to call and try to talk to a live human Tuesday.  I'm still waiting on the $550 they owe me from last year and I need my AGI from last year to complete (my comp crashed and ate my data).  Fortunately the folks I work with now are based out of New Orleans so I have a whole week day here in TX to get all of these little niggling rats killed.  I'm expecting around $1000 based on estimation and I have plans for that money.  More toys for me!!!!

I file every year a day or two after they accept, as it takes that long to get mortgage info, etc.  Every refund is in my account 2 weeks later at the most, this year was 1 week.

All the documents I need to file are online and become available wayy sooner than waiting on mail.

I efile with turbotax
