it seems like when I log into AH these days a little window pops up that advises me my 'five minutes of AI time has expired.' I'm not sure I know what that means, what it meant before it expired, or why I need to know it now. Just wondering.
Also, that little voice that come over my speaker every so often to tell me 'Alert: They are attacking our base." Is that necessary? On one hand, it's about the ONLY thing I can hear over the 'radio' that I understand perfectly, but it's useless knowledge. Can I turn it off?
And finally, for now, when I look at the roster to see how outnumbered 'we' are, next to my call sign I see a 'rank.' I have no idea what that is, how it is determined or even if I need to know it. I don't even know if a high rank is better than a low rank, and since it doesn't affect how I fly, I don't care.
But I may be in a local bar on trivia night when they ask the question, "In the game Aces High, what does a players rank mean?" So, in that case, it might be important.

I *think* if you get disconnected, AI takes over your aircraft for 5 minutes, to give you time to reboot/relog/fix whatever issue caused the boot. If you can make it back within 5 minutes, you'll be put back in your plane. Are you logging off properly when you leave Aces High, or just hitting Alt-F4? That could be it.
That voice also says "Protect our sheep at all cost", or at least it used to. Not sure if it can be disabled. Sometimes I feel like I'm causing the message, when I attack another base. But I may be crazy. But I felt at times I would hear it shortly after I flashed the radar of an enemy base...
Rank, I think, is calculated based on your fighter, bomber, and attack scores, and compared all other players' scores during the tour. I think it resets when scores are reset at the beginning of each new tour, which more or less corresponds to the 1st of each month.

Thanks, Oboe.
Yes, I have been discoed and relogged in to find myself back in the a/c. Not lately, but our service was spotting this morning and I did get bumped two or three times before I gave up.
As for the voice... well, he'll have to get along with other voices in my, is about all I can say. They're the ones that are suspicious.
And I'll continue to ignore the rank. You've been more than helpful.

As Oboe said the AI time expired is from closing the game mid flight or getting discoed.
The “base under attack” or “protect the sheep…” is triggered when an enemy is now close enough to your country’s base to show up on radar (even if the radar is down). You adjust the volume on game warnings, go to game sounds and it’s Warnings.
Score is for those who care about for whatever reason (calculation of it is complex) Besides one’s ego, the only thing it actually effects is taking command of a CV/BB. Someone with a rank of 5 would be able to boot anyone from command of the CV if they were ranked 6 or greater.

Seems Oboe covered all the bases just fine.
The most important item to remember ... Have fun.
From reading your other posts, I don't think you'll have any issues in paintin' that barn.

Thanks, Shuffler for an expression I've never heard before. I'm having a time in AH. SIK1 is coaching me in fighter ops and ACM and I'm happy as a pig in... mud. Let's just say 'mud.'

Found it and turned warning volume to zero, so thanks a bunch.

Be aware that the keystroke "check six" warnings you get from friendlies will also be muted.
-
Can't you change the canned messages you hear?
20 years later and other than check 6 the messages are useless to my game play

Base is under attack is a good prompt to pull up the map and look for additional fights, for me anyways.

Just have fun and Always protect your sheep this is very important

At this point in my skill set, 'check six' is a given, but I'll remember to turn that up for KOTH and MNM eventes.
Still living the dream.

Well in KOTH it still is against the rules and the only reason I mentioned it was as a possible visual clue to a hearing impaired person that someone is entering a fight, similar to how for example TC says he’s coming in and I used to do a knock knock as we wanted to let a fight know we were engaging. It’s not required in KOTH to say your engaging and some might prefer you didn’t but that’s one thing we let you choose to do or not.
KOTH is really a SA test so a person shouldn’t need that but some do some don’t.

:aok
I have it set at 15, however these days I’m in a GV the majority of the time and it is really distracting while defending a base to have the horn continuously going.
