P-40L(late F) flown by Gordon Austin, C.O. of the 325th Fighter Group, in mid 1943. The "Checkertails" entered combat in April 1943 during the Allied push to drive the Axis out of Tunisia. The name "Lighthouse Louie" and the associated nose art references a common target for the 325th on ground attack missions - lighthouses believed to be lookout posts for Axis forces. The 325th also engaged in air operations, including 59 consecutive escort missions into Tunisa without losing a single bomber to enemy fighters.

Great-looking skin Devil. Perfect for some of next year's FSOs?
