Title: Helle's Belle
Post by: Greebo on December 20, 2021, 04:06:39 AM
Thank you to Lyric1 for finding me the info for this skin. This one is for both the MA and the January FSO, set in Tunisia in May 1943.

"Helle's Belle/Millie III" was a B-26B of the 17th Bomb Group's 34th Bomb Squadron. It was one of the aircraft that deployed with the group to North Africa late in 1942 and was flown by the crews of 1st Lt. John Criswell and Capt. Harold Carlson before being written off in a landing accident in August 1943.

 :aok. Fine work, Greebo.

Good to see the yellow-bordered star on some US birds.   Such unusual placement for it on the fuselage though.  It's under the tail.   Wonder why they placed it so far aft?

Not sure why the fuselage markings are so placed far aft but it seems to be common to other B-26s built around this time, along with rubber LE de-icing boots. The fuselage markings are also smaller than the other 1942/3 B-26s I have done, 3/4 the size of the wing markings.

On second glance the blue spinner paint could be toned down a tiny bit.   But that's a nitpick.

It does jump out a little, but it's not a "hard" jump.  Unless that is how she really was, might go with toned down just a shade, like one or two ticks.
