Title: Power Supply or Graphics Card?
Post by: Puma44 on January 02, 2022, 07:47:58 PM
This afternoon after logging into the game, the monitor screen started flashing to black randomly.  When the game back into view, there were bands of light static surging across the screen.  As I tried to get a dxdiag, the monitor went black and stayed that way.  I restarted got a momentary sign in screen and then black.  What does this sound like is failing?  Thanks!  :salute

Had any power surges? Do you have a spare monitor to test it with?

Agreed first thought is the monitor. Failing GPU or power will generally kick out errors and blue screens of death.

I don’t have a spare monitor.  The current monitor is about two years new.  I’ll double check connections.  Hopefully something simple……wishful thinking.  Thanks gents!

I had a power surge here at home about 2 months ago black screen and all, it fried my monitor. Turned out the Surge suppressor was bad. Took me couple of days to figure it out (took in and had diagnostics done on it), then replaced the surge suppressor and the monitor. Bingo, back in business. :aok

In case you don't have a spare monitor, you may still have a TV that can be used as one at least for testing purposes. Most TV's have had a HDMI jack or three for at least a decade so compatibility should be no issue.

Don't rule out the HDMI cable itself.  I've had several go bad in the past.

Good call!  I’ll check that also.

Had a similar issue when the proprietary usb cable for my vive pro vr headset went bad..

Locating and replacing it fixed my video issues

As it turns out, the DP cable that came with the monitor was the issue.  Installed a new DP cable today and test drove it for two plus hours and not a flicker.  Thanks for the help, gents! 👍
