Title: F6F-5 VF-45 USS San Jacinto CVL-30

VF-45 was stationed aboard the USS San Jacinto from November 1944 to May 1945. The markings shown were from a picture off Kyushu, Japan, March 18 1945 and saw action over Okinawa and the Japanese home islands. During the Tokyo raid on February 16 VF-45 led all CVL FitRons with 28 kills, CO, Cdr. Gordon Schecter and Lt(jg) L.H. Kidwell apiece that day. Lt. James B. Cain scored 2 of his first 8 kills as well that day and would be the squads top ace. Squad CO Schecter was lost over Okinawa on March 18 to aa fire. In all VF-45 finished with 81.5 kills and produced 6 aces.
