This weekend we went down to my son's house to do a late Christmas, and when I opened my gift from them, it is an Oculus Quest2.
Seems my whole family is trying to get me into VR, and to try AH again with said VR.
So........if you see an Me410 wobbling around like it has a student or drunk pilot at the controls, it will probably be me. lol
All tips on setting up this contraption are and will be appreciated.

There is a VR thread which should answer your questions if you run into any trouble, but as away if you do have any issues.

Very cool!
Let us know your 1st reaction when you slip into the 410 cockpit in VR
It is quite the experience the first time you do it IMO

Hey Eddie! What a coinky-dink I just re-upped today, mostly for Scenario next month. Good ta cya back

<S> Eddie... I'm right there with you! Got everything hooked up after a bit of trial and error and WOW :x A whole new world out there. Still messing with settings etc. but the hook is deep in this now.

Been feeling under the weather a bit the past few days, so I only got around to starting the set up process yesterday.
After downloading AH again and kinda getting things squared away, I went ahead and hooked up the Quest2 and did what Eagler suggested,
got in a plane just to see what it looked like.
My initial impression, like I told HT on the phone yesterday was "Holy smokes, this airplane is HUGE!!!" after hitting the launch pad in a Me410. Never realized from
just viewing it on a computer screen how large that bird is. And I was throwing it around against Spits and La's and Ponies? What was I doing? I must have been crazy!!
Anyway, got some tips from HT on how to set things up the way I want, which is to continue to use my TM16000 and throttle and CH pedals, only really want the VR for the views.
No way could I see myself ever getting used to the Quest controllers, no tactile feedback.
I have read others suggest Voice Attack or some similiarly worded program to use in the game. I will be downloading that today and continuing the set up process.
Be patient all those salivating at the prospect of an all too easy kill.......I will return to the arenas soon, just might not be today.

Welcome to the world of VR

I think very few use the Quest controllers for the reason you stated. Remember you can still use the view switches on your stick, it saves your neck trying to look over your shoulder all the time and also all those views are adjustable and can be saved with F10 when you get them where you want them.
There are a good number of players using VR now so dont be afraid to ask questions.
Voice Attack is a must. The free version allows 10 commands, the $10 full paid version allows unlimited. The more I play with it the more I realize what I can do with it. Its a great program.
Welcome back!

Paid for the Voice Attack program, now I guess I need to figure out how to make it work for me. Mainly ".ef", autopilot, autoclimb, etc commands.
I just tried it offline (the Oculus), and heck yeah, it's amazing the things that I can suddenly "do".
#1 was my offline gunnery. Not Marseille by a long shot, but I found it a lot easier to make my rounds count, even tho the offline drones aren't maneuvering. Being away from the
game for a year and a half, I am taking even small improvements. :rock
Anyone got tips on getting Voice Attack setup efficiently and quickly?

I use the pop up vr keyboard for whats not setup on the throttle or jstick

setting up a profile in Voice Attack is pretty easy. I have only 16 commands at this point. Open VA, set the target to aces high III (dx11), click the box at the top with the pencil to edit the default "My profile". When the window opens, click "New command", when the next window opens in the top box it says "when I say" type in engine, to the left of the large box in the center click "key press" then hit the "E" key. At the bottom click "ok" and on the bottom of the next window click "apply".
Congrats, you have made your first command. With the VA running when you say "engine" your engine with either start or stop depending on which state it is in when you say the command. I have only messed around with it a bit, but with the options or "repeat key pushes, delays and any number of key pushes Im sure a lot of things are doable. I have an "icon" command. When I say ICON it presses the ALT + I keys three time, pauses for one second then hit alt + I once more. So when I use it it cycles through the icon modes, pauses at "plane icon" then moves back to friendlies. So I can see what planes the friendlies are flying around me and then it switches back to their names.
I use it to jump to the bomb site, calibrate, return to the pilots seat open doors, or any of the guns in the B24 (some bombers have different numbers for the guns) I use it to go to F3 mode while in a buff, or tower, I have a "return salute call" that returns a salute.
I think any key combinations you could do in the game you can setup with VA. Im sure some canned texts could be lais in as well. Typing on the virtual keyboard is slow but can be done. "How are you?" "long time no see!", Nice fight!" should be easy to set up and save you time typing.
Your imagination is the only limit I can find so far. If you can figure out what you "need" for key presses, this program can do it.

Good luck Eddie I got sick from try to use Track IR lol I am afraid to even try VR yet

It wears off quick. I had motion sickness just a tad in the beginning.

:aok THIS is what literally blew my mind as well. Making those crossing shots on bombers is so much easier now. After some practice, since I had struggled with managing the two flamers in a single pass, first night in the MA, I managed it in my first 262 flight with a 4 o'clock to 10 pass and was like :x
Seeing dots from a little further out helps bunches as well.

so you can use the quest for the views and still you joystick and throttle? hmmm interesting.

Quick question for VoiceAttack users:
Can you import your commands from say, one computer to another?
On my gaming system, the VA stuff was almost blacked out......I can move my mouse cursor over things and see what the boxes do, but it made it nearly impossible to
set up voice commands.
Downloaded it on this system, everything is visible and easily set up.
This system has the trial version, gaming system has the paid for version.
I am hoping that I can export the existing commands and files to a flash drive, then import them on gaming system and get things to work.
As far as the VR stuff, it's pretty cool, still not used to everything, I still find myself hitting my hat switch out of habit, but the immersion level is way up there.
Enough to keep me as a subscriber again? Probably not. Fun distraction, but some of the things that made me hang it up 18 months ago still annoy me......lol.
Thanks in advance to anyone who can tell me if the commands can be loaded on the flashdrive and moved to my gaming system. I spend way too much time trying to do key commands by feel (and looking under the nose piece at the keyboard) and less time than I want actually fighting my esteemed virtual opponents.
-
I couldnt find any "start in dark mode" button, so its weird you have it dark.
As for importing/exporting it looks like you can. Open VA, click on the wrench in the lower right corner. On that window select across the top select the last tab "system/advanced". At the bottom of that page it looks like you can export and import you files. I havn't tried it so....... good luck :)
-
Thanks, Fugi........I found in the VA documentation that only registered products can export, so.......shucks, it's just 10 bucks, I will register this version on this system
and export things to flash drive then to my gaming system.
I don't understand why the dialog boxes are all black on my registered version, was take a screen shot but no way to post it here. Just gonna proceed with Plan B and try one last
time tonight to get it working before I head back to West TX tomorrow for another job.
UPDATE--I found it in Control Panel, and High Contrast Display.........unclicked that, and now it looks normal. Don't remember checking that particular deal, but apparently I did, so..........hhhmmmmm
