Title: P-40N 18 Squadron RNZAF
Post by: Devil 505 on January 17, 2022, 10:14:24 PM
"White A" was operated by New Zealand's 18 Squadron, 4th Servicing Unit, in early 1944. 18 Squadron RNZAF was attached to the U.S. 13th Air Force and conducted operations against Bougainville and Rabaul.

This aircraft displays the evaluation of IFF marking used by allied aircraft in the Solomon Islands. The thin white stripes were the earliest type, and show the most wear. Next, bars were applied to the roundels similar to U.S. aircraft in mid 1943, with moderate wear on the top and sides and heavy wear on the underside. Finally, the entire tail section was painted white in late 1943 or early 1944. Very little wear is seen on the tail.
