Can't decide whether to continue working on this one - I tend to favor colorful skins with interesting artwork but thought this two-color scheme might be striking in its own way. Jamaica Ginger was another veteran aircraft, with 100+ missions to her credit: 149 missions flown with the 388th BG. Does this scheme trip anyone's trigger?

Some guys like the plain look. I'd say finish it. Maybe darken the black stripes to match the square. I figure they were painted at the same time and the darker black will help with the contrast.
-
The black square came first, bands added later - so if perhaps the bands should be slightly darker than square? Or roughly the same. I just kinda thew these on a bare metal base to see what it would look like, to see if it'd be worth pursuing further.

Yeah, if there's any difference at all then the square would be lighter. But I doubt you would never see a lighter, well defined, square because nobody is going to mask a black square just to paint more black around part of it. I imagine it was either fully repainted, stripe and square, or the new paint went right over the old without masking.

Fair point!

I think it looks really good will look even better once the lighting files are present to increase the contrast between the metal and the black paint, please do finish it.

I think it is cool.
I would dirty it up more with enhanced panel line shading. That would give it the knackered look of 149 missions. :x

Spend some time on 15th AF 17s. Not as colorful, but they were in the fight a long time :)
This is a 301st BG 17 that took a flak hit that ripped open the waist. This color image was taken by a Minnesotan who was a co-pilot in a nearby 17. The damaged Fort made it back. I got a copy of the photo from that co-pilot back in the day.

Tough airplanes.

Tough and beautiful. I think there is a 15th AF B-17 up for adoption, I could take a look at that one.
Are there any really famous Forts from the 15thAF? I'm trying to cover as many bases as possible for any future scenario action...

Check out this site. 2nd Patches, is probably the most photo documented 15th AF 17, but there are other MTO based 17s shown here too

I would do that one for sure, except the B-17G has horrendous stretching on the chin turret. I tried doing Flak Eater from the 306th BG once, which also has a shark mouth on the chin turret. The sharkmouth ends up looking like a big red/white smear. It's a real disappointment.
