Thank you to Lyric1 for finding me the info for this scheme, particularly for discovering the airframe number that isn't visible in the photos. I decided to upgrade my B-25H template to 2048 res for this skin. Less work than it would have normally been as I was able to use my B-25C template for the wings and tail.
As part of the 38th Bomb Group the 823rd Bomb Squadron flew low level bombing and strafing sorties against Japanese bases in New Guinea, the South West Pacific and later the Philippines. Each of the group's squadrons adorned the noses of their aircraft with a different animal; panthers, wolves, dragons and in the case of the 823rd, tigers. In early 1944 this squadron was equipped with the 75mm howitzer-armed B-25G. In May they received this replacement B-25H for what was presumably a combat trial and they flew it until July. While the H had far heavier defensive armament it still retained the 75mm gun. As on the G however the howitzer's recoil caused things to shake loose on the airframe requiring more man hours to fix and these aircraft had to fly long straight runs at low level to aim and fire the gun which made them easier targets for flak. So when the squadron was eventually re-equipped it was with all machine gun solid-nosed B-25Js.
