When I first went to work at the County Family and Children Services, I received a child abuse report (which turned out to be unfounded) on a family. It happened that the mother was in the office for another reason, so I went to her and said "When you finish with Mrs. XXX, I need to see you." I was struck by her appearance. She had olive complexion, straight black hair, she was wearing jeans, boots, a western shirt, and was dripping in turquoise. Rings, belt buckle, earrings, bracelets, and probably things I couldn't see.
I'm taking her basic information and I asked, "What's your race?" I figured she would either say "American Indian" or "Native American." Oh, no. "I'm WHITE!"
I lost my professional composure. "Have you looked in the mirror? I'd have bet Cherokee in a heartbeat!" It turned out that her husband liked for her to dress that way. Next question, "Does he wear a cowboy hat and spurs?" By this time we were both laughing. But I never missed a person's gender.

It's not the education system, it's the language and interpretation of it from each individuals point of view.
Take the words complete and finished. They are very similar but can mean two completely opposite things. Example:
If you meet Mrs. 'Right' and marry her; you are complete.
If you meet Mrs. 'Wrong' and marry her; you are finished.
And finally, if Mrs. 'Right' finds you with Mrs. 'Wrong'; you are completely finished.

it's exactly the education I have that helps me understand why you can't biologically define a man or a woman because there's always exceptions. you can give general terms but that's about it.
even if you bring up xx/xy you still have exceptions. that's why it's hard to define. 2 plus 2 does not always equals 4.

and that is how simple it is, trying to define a man or a women. if men have noodlees and women have vaginas wont that make almost all of us gays? that's why we cant define men or women with 100% facts. biologists cant even agree on what to have for dinner and sure for hell cant define what makes a man or a woman. because there's always exceptions. general terms I agree, but I bet there's isnt one person in this world that can define one way or another with 100% certainty.

My attitude is not like many would think. I do not want anyone else to feel obligated to call me anything one way or the other. I just live my life and don't expect others to have to "deal" with me in any special way.
I'm fortunate in that no one knows that I am not a real woman. If I was one that looked like a guy in a dress, I'd not have gone though with this. Lots of things would have bothered me, but very high on the list would be having people feel obligated - or even forced to consider me a woman. That's not right or fair.
I feel blessed. I'm happy and I like people. People like me.

This is the voice of reason, so pay attention. I grew up in the shadow of an older brother who was perfect in every way. It took me a long time to get to be comfortable with who I am and to be that person. Of all of Clint Eastwood's macho lines, the one I love the most is from his movie, Bronco Billy, when he says, "I am who I want to be."

2+2= 4 always. XX =female, XY=male, always. Anything other than those 2 are a biological defect, the larger the population, the larger the chance of. That doesn't however give one license to dehumanize or give reason to not call a female, female or a male, male.

Developmentally, when other genetics are accounted for, there are multiple dozens of intrinsic sex traits that have male/female "grey scales" to them. The amount of variability is astounding. Very few traits are strictly on/off... most have varying degrees of "on", bringing gray into a discussion that used to be "black and white, boy or girl"
People have such an easy time with binary categories, but have so much trouble when the world is full of different shades of gray, and it certainly shows in this thread. "Female" is basically the default setting for pretty much everything genetic in our species....For demonstration, look down at your male nipples and ask yourself what they're there for.
But, I'm just a male biologist... I'm sure there's some high school biology dropout that will gladly point out where I'm wrong. :rolleyes:

My business/BS? I still have the testicles I was born with and still identify as male. Yet I still try to keep an open mind about those that do not. And, as a result, I'm more than happy to defer to those that have actually had surgical gender reassignment to be able to give a valid POV and opinion. Have you been misgendered in your lifetime?

That is not the tactics being used. I get where you are coming from by taking top line talking points at face value but the tactics are usurping a cause to inflict divisiveness on society. That is the crux of the disagreement.
