P-39D "Air-A-Cutie" belonging to the 36th Fighter Squadron, 8th Fighter Group in late 1943, while based in New Guinea.
Photo reference for this aircraft shows three different configurations of markings and I chose the latest one with the white tail, wing leading edge, bars on the U.S. insignia. Earlier versions had white only on the spinner, a stripe aft of the spinner, and the tip of the vertical stabilizer. At some point, the right arm of the port side pinup girl was changed from extending over her head to curving under her torso while holding a cigarette. An unusual detail that can't be replicated on the skin was that the main gear doors were removed.
