Please sign here Mr Guppy and thanks for the reference photos.
This is the Spitfire Mk I of Squadron Leader Hilary "Robin" Hood, CO of 41 Squadron RAF during the Battle of Britain in which he claimed kills on a Bf109E and a Ju 87 on the 19th July. He was flying it when he lost his life on 5th September. While leading a head on attack on a formation of Do 17s his squadron was bounced by JG54 109Es and four of the Spitfires and their pilots were lost. Hood possibly collided with another Spitfire while taking evasive action. He is reported to have baled out but his chute tangled with the wreckage of his aircraft and he plummeted to his death.
The aircraft was painted in the early war scheme of dark earth, dark green above and aluminium undersides, with one black and one white lower wing as a ground recognition aid. A heraldic squirrel was painted on the fuselage, just ahead of the cockpit.

Agreed. Anxious to see the bottom side natural aluminum finish glare in the sun...

Beautiful as always Greebo. Thanks for coming through like you always do. It will be fun to be in the 41 Squadron skin in the Target For Today event June 11 :)

It occurred to me Greebo, that your work will allow me back in a Battle of Britain 41 squadron Spitfire for the first time since 1986 when I got to sit in the cockpit of an actual Battle of Britain surviving Spitfire that was in 41 Squadron markings at the first reunion of Spit pilots of 41 Squadron. At RAF Coltishall. Oh to be that young again! This is the Spit II from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight. OK so it's not a real Spitfire this time but a cartoon one, but at least it will have the same squadron codes :)
