Just did a speed test
16.2
Mbps download
1.39
Mbps upload
That's about as good as it gets out here in the sticks. Can I expect spotty game play or should that be sufficient?
Ya ya I know there are other factors that enter into it I just want to know if the game SHOULD play smoothly on that?

It's your ping time that matters. Under 300 is still good I believe.
You can open a command prompt in administrative tools and ping hitechcreations.com .

Pinging hitechcreations.com [199.101.50.180] with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 199.101.50.180: bytes=32 time=1083ms TTL=242
Reply from 199.101.50.180: bytes=32 time=580ms TTL=242
Reply from 199.101.50.180: bytes=32 time=78ms TTL=242
Reply from 199.101.50.180: bytes=32 time=77ms TTL=242
UGH :bhead
or wait.. is that okay?

You can get pingplotter. It's a free program download that will give you more detail. If you average 80ms that's great.
-
What your looking for is a consistent ping under 200. When you get pingplotter set it up to ping HTC, and let it run a while a couple minutes at least to get a good sample. The averages will settle and you'll be able to get a good read.
-
thanks gents. Toddling off to bed in 4 mins but I'll check pingplotter out. I'm seriously considering running a dedicated line just to my rig when I get it. My entire focus is getting back into the unfriendly skies :)

Why ping hitechcreation.com??
Axis vs Allies, Melee, Special Events 1, Training, World War I: 71.252.137.153
Lobby, Special Events 2: 71.252.137.154
Custom Arenas: 71.252.137.155
Dueling, Missions: 71.252.137.158
if those are up to date. Stability over speed every day of the week.

Been running it on hitechcreations since about 6 am so far. running an avg of 72.9
That said I also use THIS system for work so I always have Chrome (ick but that's what work demands) etc running in the background so after i get off work today I'm shutting everything down, firing up AH, and doing a pingplot on all the addresses you mentioned and see where I'm at. I'm in process of getting a gaming rig by, hopefully, end of Sept plus all my gear so I'm doing my up front homework now. I'm honestly thinking about just getting a dedicated isp strictly for gaming that has NOTHING else on it.
-
I think the same rules apply today that applied back in the day when we all played on dial up. It's more about the quality and consistency of your connection than the speed. If you bring up your netstat on the clipboard and you're seeing a lot of spikey erratic behavior in varience that will translate to spikey erratic stuff happening in the game. That's what you see and how others see you.

If you want to test the arenas you only need to do one. 71.252.137.153 I doubt you'll see a different result.
If you're sharing a connection with family, that may cause issues if they stream movies or DL large files.

ya so I noticed. I was running a nice slightly below average of 80 all day. When the rents woke up and got on their computers the numbers were.. well you don't want to know what the numbers were. The good news is they'll be asleep again in an hour.
And yes I moved in with them because they didn't want to have to worry about assisted living so I'm here to do the heavy lifting, grocery shopping, taking them to the doc when they need it, cooking meals, and so on. I figured they did so much for me over the years a few years of little to no privacy was a small sacrifice to make.
Edit now that's odd. When I ping hitechcreations.com now that the rents are in bed I'm getting a pretty good average of 65 to 68 but when I try it on the addresses you guys provided I'm getting 100% pl

The arena IP is where you'll be flying. Pingplotter can give you details or you can run "tracert 71.252.137.153" from a command prompt. You also want a wired connection to the router, not wireless.
-
she be wired and all I got was request timed out. Now this is getting baffling.
I'm wondering if ESET isn't blocking the arenas. I'll check that tomorrow.
Thanks for all the help guys :salute

I use NOD32 and have no issues

Same. I'm a bit baffled and today work was a brain diddlyer so I'm just going to chill and see if I can figure this out tomorrow but I do appreciate all the help.

The IP addresses have changed.
Melee is now 47.190.53.220
Didn't look to see what the other IP address's are yet.

Good catch. I didn't check the current IPs. That will likely fix it. :aok

Ya that one is working. I'm going to let it run for a bit and see where we're at
Edit: VERY interesting. I was running avg around 21 to 24, Min 18 to 19. But then the rents got up and turned on their machines. For about 20 minutes it jumped up to avg over 400 then dropped back down. Thoughts?
PS anybody got the ip's for the other arenas?
-
Sounds like you're all set.
The arenas are all at the same physical location so the pings should be similar.

:aok :aok

Well, there are only 2 IP address's.
47.190.53.219 H2H,SEA II, Steal the sheep, WWI, Match play and Short Missions.
47.190.53.220 Melee, AVA, SEA I, WWI: Western Front and Training Arena

Sure would be nice if they were listed in the area where we generally look for them.
Good thing I added ‘if they are up to date’ .

When you start up the game and just highlight the arena, click on ping details. It shows the ip address for that arena.
-
I was surprised that running wifi I get a solid 60.

I got concerned when INK visited a while back so I dusted off my twisty and he flew for a bit after I crashed. Said he had some warping issues so i wanted to be absolutely sure my isp was solid for gameplay
Thanks gentlemen :)
