So I've had an in progress 190F-8 in the works for a few years. Tropical scheme, tan with green splotches. Similar to the default skin.
I've worked on it a bit and then set it aside a few times for various reasons. Mostly because I was not happy with how the green splotches looked.
Decided to take another stab at finishing it tonight since it would be accurate for June's FSO. Started the splotches from scratch and was happy with how they looked. Decided to save the work to check the alignment of the splotches across the seams in the 3D model.
So what happened?
Gimp froze while the file was saving. Had to terminate the application from the task manager.
Relaunched Gimp to continue working on the skin. I probably only lost 10-15 minutes of work since the last save.
Error: File Corrupted.
Kaput.
Skin is toast.
Too mad to try starting it over. Damn skin has been a disappointing thorn in my side since 2018 and goes out like a chump just when it seemed to be turning itself into something worthy of finishing.
Happy Trails, 190F-8 Trop
Guess I'll update that Emil after all.

I'm sorry for your troubles. :(

you've undoubtly tired to google a fix...
this is what I found
With some luck you will have a copy in one of the tmp-dirctories.
Check gimp - settings -folders

Sorry this happened. Ugh. Brutal.
I save my diffuse files with five total copies numbered 00 through 04. I regularly save 00, 01 as they are my primary working copies along with a backup as 02. 03 I save less frequently and 04 rarely, all for cases like this.
If the file I’m working on blows up I have four more to pick from.
AH3 P-51D Jo-Baby Template 00.psp
AH3 P-51D Jo-Baby Template 01.psp
Etc.
Perhaps name them like this*:
AH3 190F8 Red 10 Diffuse 00.psp
AH3 190F8 Red 10 Diffuse 01.psp
Etc.
*I don’t know the file extension you are using…

Ugh! Sorry to hear that Devil. That sucks.
I have had Photoshop hang on me more than once, and every time it has crashed, when I reopen it, there is a file called something like "filename_recovered.psd". I don't know how it does it, but it has saved me several times.
btw guys, while looking for some software the other day, I ran into this free download of Photoshop CS6 here:
https://www.softlay.com/downloads/adobe-photoshop-cs6 (https://www.softlay.com/downloads/adobe-photoshop-cs6)
If you're angry enough with Gimp, might be worth a try. Not sure what version of Photoshop Adobe is up to now, but CS6 is what I use - I bought an educational version from a bookstore while I was a student back in the early 2000s. A current version of Gimp may be more feature-rich than CS6 though.
Good luck! It's a nice-looking, different Fw190 skin. Might be worth a clean slate start at some point....

Sorry to read that Devil, really sucks to lose a load of work.
Paintshop Pro has an annoying bug where it will CTD if I so much as nudge the scroll wheel while dragging an object. I have got into the habit now of saving the file before dragging anything.
I back up the file periodically when doing a new template but rarely for a new skin on an existing template.

Relying on a single coy of your file is a recipe for disaster. I learned this back in high school when we were taught word processors in their infancy.
SAVE MULTIPLE COPIES PERIODICALLY.
-
Do a SAVE AS and add 01 to the end. Or BKP. At a minimum

Sorry to hear Devil.
I do like your skins. It's a shame you lost all that work.
:salute

Next time there's an MTO based event I'll probably take a stab at it.
But for right now, there's enough other projects to keep me busy and motivated.

I blame Bethesda. <Beep> you Bethesda! :furious
