Yeah I saw the change, there is a reason I post so little here. Still the best way to stay in touch with a few "old heads" so I stop by once a day in the morning.

They're enjoying themselves somehow, bickering back and forth. It's easy to skip through the threads, and as you say, now and again there are good posts that aren't political/financial rabbit holes.

That's they way it was for most of it's existence.
I left FW several months ago and deleted my account along with all of my posts. I only administer it now - and there is still no moderation.
registrations had been off recently too - and the reason is that I don't really care about the place and I don't care to screen bots or new accounts.
Registrations have been turned back on recently and the three banned people have been reinstated.
Hi Shamus. Not sure if you're implying that any of this is my doing.
By the way, I offered to moderate the O'Club. In my opinion, the O'Club could be a great place again. I believe there needs to be moderation but not as out of control as when Skuzzy was zapping everything and citing one of the 57 rules that was supposedly violated.
This place needs only a few simple rules. They could cover any scenario that Dale wanted to cover.
My ICOM forum is moderated. I don't enjoy arguments that go tit for tat and that are pointless. I do not enjoy people being nasty. I do like to be able to discuss news, current events and I really enjoy when people share things about themselves.
I like people. I like to keep in touch with the people I've met here over some twenty years.

14 whole rules of civility. Most members who transgressed took it well and tried not to make the mistake again. Those who persisted could play those games elsewhere. You volunteering to 'moderate' AHBB is like a wolf volunteering to watch over sheep. :old:

If people can't 'remember' 14 they are pinned in bold at the top. When in 'doubt', stop and look them up. When reminded more than once by a mod, enjoy your vacation (even if permanent).

When a discussion turns into the same two or three people rehashing the same thing over and over, that would be shut down. No one likes to see it. on ICOM, I don't allow that - and people there understand that and will back off simply when asked.
Moderation doesn't have to be a big deal.

So do you think the ICOM invaders (and some of the regulars here that now resort to) behaving the way they do are the exception? Here's the reason politics were banned - they invariably result in bad behavior.
Here's the whole TOS (Terms Of Service) list:
1- Posts are to be made in the relevant forum. Users are asked to read the forum descriptions before posting.
2- Threads should remain on topic, do not "hijack" topics.
3- Do not open a new thread that duplicates a current topic.
4- Flame baiting, flaming, being abusing, being disrespectful, trolling, spamming or posting to incite or annoy is not allowed. If you cannot make a positive contribution to the thread, then just stay out of it.
5- Members are asked to not act as "back seat moderators". If you feel a post violates the forum rules, the use the "Report to Moderator" link in the post to report it.
6- Posting pornographic, drug, or generally offensive text, images, links, etc. will not be tolerated. This includes attempts to bypass the profanity filter. This is a family friendly bulletin board.
7- Cheating allegations or descriptions are not allowed. Email support@hitechcreations.com to report any issues regarding this. HTC permanently bans anyone caught cheating in Aces High. We take cheating and allegations of cheating very seriously.
8- Complaints about a player's behavior online should be emailed to support@hitechcreations.com rather than posted to this board.
9- Users are permitted to upload one of their own avatars. Avatars must be in good taste and consistent with the other rules of this board.
10- Do not punt topics. Punting would be making a non-substantive post for the express purpose of bringing the thread to the top of the thread list.
11- Members should post in a way which is consistent with "normal writing". That is users should not post excessive numbers of emoticons, large, small or colored text, etc. Similarly users should not SHOUT or use excessive punctuation (e.g. ! and ?) in topic titles or posts.
12- All posts, in public forums, should be made in the English language.
13- Threads started devoid of commentary will not be allowed (i.e. links, cut-n-pastes, clicky, read this...)
14- Posting topics or threads which are based on politics, race, or religion is expressly forbidden.
I'm interested in more detail from you as to which ones are unnecessary, why and how they hurt your (and other's) feelings.

Frankly the board would be great if the repeat rule violators would get a nice long vacation. The threads get locked for a reason and the morons just start the same thread with the same topic over again.

I would find it comical if someone who violates the rules daily also moderates the board.

Arlo, who are the ICOM invaders? There's only one other person I know of here that is a member of ICOM. And I'm pretty they've been on this forum for a long time before ICOM began.

It's pretty terrible. The O'Club used to be personal posts about non-aviation or aviation. I especially loved posts about other video games. In the past, I would have started a thread about Company of Heroes 3 and its big announcement today. But now, it's just the same 20 people spouting BS about politics with no filter or moderating. A big reason why I do not come to the forum very often, now. Not to mention, of the 20, 15 have no clue what they are talking about.

What's to stop you from creating those threads? I mean just because there's other threads?
15 people are about all that are usually online in total of the whole forums.
It's not like anybody has to read threads that they don't care for. The people that are going around and around saying the same things over and over again, well I don't get that. Doesn't bother me though .

About 800 people joined my website within a couple of weeks. The heavy moderation here is what drove most people away back then.
So if all you care about is having a small little niche place, then that's what you got with the moderation.
In my opinion the place was way more vibrant and interesting when things were allowed to play out.
I realized this is a business but look at it. It's not much of a business right now is it?
And I like Dale and I like the game. I loved these forums back in the day. It was an exciting time for the game too. But things don't stay the same. A lot of people have moved on.

The forums went down the tubes when it started to be heavily moderated. Hundreds of people left. The forum has been dead for years because of that.
I understand that this is a business, but the moderation is what drove lots of people away - not the behavior on the forums.
I guess it's relative. I think the forum went down the tubes when 100's of people left it.. and now we have maybe 10-15 people at a time logged in.
Now we have the worst of everything. No one is here and it's not moderated.
I have a proposal in to Dale:
1 Return moderation to the O'Club for the 10 people who like it that way
2. Open a new sub-forum - with way less moderation. People have to request access to participate in this area.
Or maybe Dale has decided not to have it moderated much as it is. I don't know.

you're wrong. The O'Club was mostly non game related. You can easily go back and look. It was not moderated for politics or news or much of anything else.
It was fun and very active. When the moderation began is when about 800 or more people came to FlameWarriors within a few weeks of it opening in 2008. The forum died off with the moderation.
How many zippy and fun threads are being posted now? Not much - and it's not because the place has suddenly become "trashed"
People are having political discussions right now but I don't see anyone being uncivil. Do you?
HiTech may not care or maybe he is not able to keep up with it. Still, do you think that this place will magically become MORE vibrant if he starts moderating it all again? The political threads would stop, but then you will be left with what? You think people who want to post about the game are suddenly going to arrive in the O'Club?
The o'club was not very game related. You can easily look and see. Pre 2007 or 2008

Sort threads by replies and look at those subjects
9/11, War, politics, Guns, Evolution, flames (Voss Conspiracy)
Or sort by oldest to newest.
Take a look at those threads and compare that to anything recent.
The place was not "trashed" then. It was alive.
Now we have 5 or so guys that tattle and report and admonish other posters. It's a boring-ass shell of what it was.

These are the threads in the O'Club sorted by most replies.
The majority of these threads were started before 2009 and 2008, ran hundreds of pages and some were locked well after 2008 when the heavy moderation began.
Have a look and tell me that was a trashed forum.
These days, all the forums are dead. With maybe three threads in the main forum that have replies today. The O'Club is the most active right now, and the few people that do post are not being obnoxious or out of hand.

The stripperweb and PETA troll threads are within those two links. Some of those people have passed on now. That was the golden era of this game and this forum.
It's fun to browse the old threads and to see the names of people from back then.

FW is many times more active than this whole forum combined is. It has been for many years.
ICOM is busier than it's been in years because I decided to actually post there and make something of it again.

ICOM had 5 posts in the last 7 hours and one of them was by gg, a 1/2 hour ago.

No one is coming here from ICOM or FW.
ICOM averages 16.8 posts per day.
FW averages 293 posts per day.

The old FW forum has been shut down for years but still online and it still has over 400 posts per day average. It was over 800 a day when it was active and before I moved it and basically shut it down.

And some speak of the "community" and probably have not had an active AH account in years. And they are worried about the forum. I think that my account lends more support to the game than some busybody, complaining freeloader.
