Title: A Crimean Friedrich
Post by: Devil 505 on August 04, 2022, 01:14:29 AM
This is an adoption of BH3841's original skin.

Bf 109F-4 flown by Heinrich Graf von Einsiedel, technical officer of III/Jg 3. This aircraft was photographed in the summer of 1942 in southern Ukraine; most likely at Oktoberfeld, Crimea.

When Jg 3 returned to the eastern front in 1942, the 109's of I and III Gruppe sported non-standard camouflage patterns. It is speculated that they were equipped with tropical variant of the 109F-4, complete with the factory desert paint scheme, although I see no evidence of removed air filter brackets or umbrella mounts. It is possible that the ground crew removed these items and filled the holes before painting. Regardless, I elected to retain the basic color scheme of BH3841's original instead of replacing the light gray with desert sand. I will eventually do one Jg 3's 109F's in the modified desert scheme.

Markings consist of the Jg 3 "Udet" shield on the cowl and the III Gruppe emblem below the windscreen. A large chevron with a circle indicate that this machine was the personal mount for III Gruppe's technical officer. 5 victory bars are painted on the tail. Yellow eastern front IFF markings are applied to the lower cowl and wing tips, with a band around the rear fuselage.
