Title: Fun Stunts
Post by: Tig on August 09, 2022, 01:47:09 PM
Thanks to the perk multiplier being heavily in my favor this morning, I got to take an Me 262 for a spin for only 50 perk points. I just wanted to goof around a bit on the MA, so I just made a quick hop between two secure airfields.
On the way there, I had Dreams by Van Halen playing, and one of the lines is "Straight up we'll climb", so you can guess what I did.  :rofl
So, at 6K feet, I pushed that 262 into a tailstand until the airspeed read zero. Then I yanked back on the stick and started cartwheeling, which I promptly recovered from after 2 or 3 flips.  I am still amazed at how much elevator authority the 262 has!

Another stunt I like to do, which I have used in sorties to varying degrees of success, is the "flip-flop". Works best in a Spit 16 from what I've found, but I'll just put full right rudder and put the stick in the far back right corner. It looks like the plane is having a seizure, but it's fun nonetheless, although hard to recover from. Drops the airspeed to zero almost instantly.

And of course, there's the hangar runs. I've run a 262 through a fighter hangar before, intact! It was tight, to say the least. I've also run through bomber hangars several times when I'm defending from vulchers and they're chasing me. They usually just go over the top, but it gives me a little breathing room for a split second.

What are some of y'all's favorite stunts to do in or out of combat?  :airplane:

I love to fly through hangars, but I can only do bomber hangars.  I always bend my props when trying to fly through a fighter hangar.

One time we were about to capture a field.  The field was de-acked, so I flew through the hangars on the enemy field while waiting for the troops to get to the map room.

If I've had a good flight, I'll buzz the tower.

We had custom maps in AH2 where there were 100 hangers lined up in a row that you flew a 262 through. I remember a couple people doing that but upside down.

My favorite is flying my P-38J, inverted, through the hangar at an enemy base while ack is still up. See how many times you can get by doing that.

Flying under trees and hearing the pop of those chasing you as they don't

Well crud I thought this thread was going to be a play on the old joke 'what's the difference between a circus and a sorority?  At a circus you get to watch a bunch of cunning stunts'.

That said I always enjoyed hangar flying or squad nights in a private arena.  One night we were all lined up on the ramp in jeeps. We were going to have a jeep race and one of our squad blew by in a plane and lit most of use up.  Good laughs.

"Flying through the enemy's hangar" used to be a regular squad op for the EZ Targets.  It's more fun in a furball when someone's on your six and you can't shake him, because most of the time he'll either break off or crash.  That's uh, on the premise that you survive, too.  In WBs, I used to do a hangar fly through in a goon after a field capture, always a tight squeeze.

Haven't done the "landing ON the hangar" contest with my squad in a long time with different planes. Should bring it back.

Probably the only thing I ever enjoyed in a vehicle was getting the jeep on top of a mountain and finding ramps for it going top speed. That was fun sometimes.

Squad jeep races with the 332n'd and in AVA were always a hoot

I used to like knocking the wing tips off the mossie and then just flying it around in the TA, helped learn rudder control.

You simply spawn the mossie and drive it into the side of a hanger until you snapped off each wing tip. That takes a little practice but it’s not that difficult. Rolling it inverted and then upright was very difficult but with enough alt you could avoid lawndarting.

The other fun stunt was to launch the Storch off the CV and go slow enough for the CV to steam out in front of you.

YMMV.

Back in the late 90s in WBs, we'd have Ju52 races in a hot arena.  Friendly field to friendly field and usually about half would get shot down on the way.

Managed to make it couple of times with a fighter but then someone (you?) did it w/ Ju52. I also tried few times and every mission like that successfully failed...   :D

I haven't done this in a long time and was never able to accomplish the "stunt" but I was trying to refine my gunnery skills by shooting off the wing tips of all the online drones.

We didn't call it a stunt, but we used to roll stukas in MW and shoot our wheels off. Then we would go fight against all the fighters in a furball. I once landed 8 kills in one flight.

 to a version D5

Stuka turns pretty well in low alt and speed, especially w/ flaps. If AH had D version w/ 20mm wing cannons, 1000 rpg, it would be quite capable for many tasks.

In WB I asked to have 20 mm pilot cannon in JU88 and to update JU87 to version D5, which has 20mm in wings instead of 7.9 peashooters. Both materialized and at first mission w/ 20mm JU88, I shot down 4 fighters when guarding a closed base and waiting for troops to arrive.

Yes.... the guns on a Stuka require holding shots till you can place them in one area for a good volley. Often requiring more hits in the same spot on follow up passes.
