Beginning on July 24, 2022, and lasting over the span of a week, several areas of the United States were impacted by numerous flash flooding events. These areas included parts of Missouri and Illinois, especially Greater St. Louis, Eastern Kentucky, Southwest Virginia, parts of West Virginia, and the Las Vegas Valley. Several rounds of severe thunderstorms began in Missouri on July 24, culminating during July 25 and 26, when St. Louis broke its previous 1915 record for the most rainfall in a span of 24 hours. Governor Mike Parson declared a state of emergency on July 26. Over one hundred people were rescued from floods, and two people were killed. Late on July 27 and into July 28, historic flooding began in central Appalachia, particularly in Kentucky, where a state of emergency was declared. A total of 38 people were killed in Kentucky, with a 39th fatality occurring days later during cleanup efforts.
Late July 28, another unprecedented flash flooding event occurred in Las Vegas after parts of the city saw over an inch of rainfall. Much of the Las Vegas Strip became inundated, with roads, casinos, and parking garages being affected and flights being delayed or cancelled. More flooding continued from July 30 to August 1 in Arizona, including Phoenix and Flagstaff, California, including Death Valley National Park, and again in the same areas of Eastern Kentucky. In all, 41 people were killed during the flooding events: 39 in Kentucky on July 28 and 2 in Missouri on July 26.
DFW gets 10" plus of rain with flash flooding with, so far, one death.

Normal flooding. Been happening forever in cycles.
I lived in Arizona most of my life and flash floods are normal. I've seen Bridges taken out in Tempe by overflowing Rivers much worse than now. Same thing with nevada.
Floods happen.

Floods are Natural Flooding is a common phenomenon in Canada, resulting from an increase in streamflow beyond the point where the normal stream channel can contain the water. When water overspills riverbanks, it spreads out along the adjoining floodplain. Flood-waters may occupy the floodplain for a matter of hours, as in the case of flash floods, or for up to two months, as sometimes occurs during the spring snowmelt runoff period.
People in several Brampton neighbourhoods are grappling with swamped basements and other property damage Monday, one day after heavy rainfall caused localized flooding — and Environment Canada is warning the Greater Toronto Area could see more of the same Monday night.
Seems floods happen everywhere. Even in Canada.

I remember when the dry salt river was overflowing and taking out bridges in Tempe.
Pretty normal to have big flash floods and heavy rain.

My place in Henderson Nevada is prolly 8 miles from the Las Vegas strip. They flooded, My place ? Great electrical storms and light rain with BIG drops. It's Monsoon season in august.

I've been back in California for 14 years and I really miss the Arizona monsoon season.

The Phoenix flood of 1891 was the largest recorded flood of the Salt River, occurring from February 19 to February 26.[1][2] It affected most of the Salt River Valley in Maricopa County, Arizona and caused damaged to the cities of Phoenix, Tempe, and Mesa.[3][4][5] The river swelled to over 3 miles wide and caused significant damage, including the destruciton of a railroad bridge.[1] The flood was a major precursor to the formation of the Salt River Project.[6]

1990 or so.
Mill avenue bridge in Tempe.
I also remember in the 70s that our street would flood so badly that we would ride inner tubes all the way down 52nd Street in North Phoenix. It was a common occurrence.
I also remember that we couldn't get to school for a couple of days because the streets were so flooded. That was in the mid-70s

What about New Orleans. That city is around 8' below sea level. :confused:

in 1978 a flash flood destroyed the durdevica Tara Bridge. hundreds drown as the bridge itself had been blocked and people tried to get across by walking under the bridge as the river itself was shallow.

Btw AZ is having a very good monsoon season. Actually having one right now, light drizzle atm, but quite a bit of lightning and thunder. A few days ago several Phoenix suburbs measured over an inch in a few hours.

Can't you see? There are floods and droughts happening where they never ever happened before.
