(CNN)California air regulators are expected Thursday to issue stringent rules to ban the sale of new gasoline cars by 2035 and set interim targets to phase the cars out.
The California Air Resources Board will vote on the measure Thursday afternoon, board member Daniel Sperling told CNN. Sperling added he was "99.9%" confident the measure would pass. If it does, it would be one of the first such bans worldwide. It also could have major implications for the US car market, given how large California's economy is. "This is monumental," Sperling said. "This is the most important thing that CARB has done in the last 30 years. It's important not just for California, but it's important for the country and the world."

I am curious about one thing. Given the current status of the kaliphornya electrical grid, exactly how many power generating stations are they in the process of building? They can barely handle the load now without rolling brownouts / blackouts so how are they going to handle the increase in power requirements from the heavy amps / watts the chargers will draw?

I sense that there are a lot of people posting in this thread who do not own electric cars. Once you have one (and have put the 220 line in your garage), there's no going back. We have a Tesla 3, and it is just a plain hoot to drive. The acceleration is unmatched by anything short of a muscle car (and possibly not by them, in the short run). True, we'll take one of the gas cars on trips that will exceed 200 miles, but that's just because we're lazy and don't want to spend 20 minutes in a rest area. I expect that will change as we get bolder (and even older). But those trips are rare, possibly two or three times a month. The rest of the time, the range is not a problem.
I haven't yet met an electric car owner who regrets the purchase.

The kali mandate is for new car production and doesn’t effect used cars,so start buying all those ice cars and you can corner the market and sell all those used cars at huge profits.
Most manufacturers already have a large lineup of hybrid and pure EV’s now,Volvo stopped building pure gas engines in cars as of last year. Porsche and Ferrari both make hybrid super cars now and F1 cars have been hybrid for several years now.

No idea where the hatred of electric powered anything comes from. My lifestyle would make the limited range of the current list of electric cars a non-starter. But there is huge money to be made in advancing battery technology, and that much more than any goal to save the environment, will lead to advances that make electric cars more far more useful. For the Babyboomers with a bent for aviation, can you remember when the DC-7 and the Constellation were the ultimate in airplane technology? That was only 60 years ago.

There's no hatred for ev technology, there's hatred for being forced into it by incompetents. If you live in a metropolitan area, in a warm environment, they're probably fairly useful to have, but I expect very few have them as their only vehicle. It's all but impossible to get a vehicle that was not purchased in california, registered in California, which instantly creates a huge shortage of all used cars, and people who couldn't pay 30 40 50 60,000 for a new electric car aren't going to have any other options because all the used cars are

If you buy a new car and make payments, do your maintenance on a regular basis, do repairs, purchase gasoline, and compare the monthly payments to a Tesla that never needs maintenance and charges with much less expensive electricity the Tesla comes out ahead by a wide margin. I have had zero repair bills, no maintenance after 4 years, and the vehicle will accelerate faster than almost any gas powered vehicle commonly seen on the freeways and it is not even close. BYD and Tesla may bankrupt many of the legacy car makers in less than 5 years if they do not build huge huge battery factories. The Ford CEO may be the only one that gets it. Mary Barra of GM absolutely does not get it. GM has had to recall every EV they have sold because of battery issues. You cannot buy expensive batteries from a supplier like LG Chem, CATL, or BYD because you cannot make a profit. You also do not have any control over quality or availability. If the government bails them out they still might not survive. If Toyota goes under that would be a huge blow to the Japanese economy.
If you have a friend that owns a Tesla ask him or her about it. Tesla does not advertise. How is Tesla growing so fast without advertising? Year over year 50 per cent growth.. How many companies do that?
You may not like what is coming, but technology disrupters always make companies disappear. Kodak, Nokia, Motorola, Block Buster, Polaroid, Minolta, and many more are gone because they waited to long to adapt.

.. and then the Great Freeze of '21 happened in Texas. Snowed over solar panels and frozen-stuck wind turbines leading to the state being right on the edge of electrical grid collapse because it was subsidized so heavily by the government over traditional/reliable all-season methods of power generation. Over the last 5 years or so it changed. The influx of homeless and with it the drugs and assaults. Shopping cart people going through my garbage. Stepping over them to stop at the donut shop on the way to work. Smash and grabs at the huge mall near by. Motel next to micky dees became a focal point for the meth heads. What sealed it was when my washer decided to die. Laundromat was right around the corner but my wife didn't feel comfortable being there alone and I don't blame her.. So we washed on weekends so that we both could be there.
At that point when I turned 70 we put the house for sale and I retired as the oldest heavy duty truck mechanic in world. Took the money, paid cash and put the rest in the bank.
I've been in Henderson for 7 months in a gated 55 and over community. In that time I saw my FIRST shopping cart person on a doc's appointment in Vegas. ONE. Not a tent city under ANY overpass. After working for sixty years and raising two kids, I will NOT live were I HAVE to step over someone to buy a donut
Vegas is pretty rough watching the news. It has it's problems. Henderson doesn't.

Its not just cars, gasoline generators are also being banned a lot sooner. So that pretty much takes away your freedom to work in remote places unless you keep your old generator running cause you can't buy a new one that's illegal to generate your own power in commiefornia. Also with no generators you can't go do any sort of offroading or camping because you'll have no way of charging your electric toy truck.
But those people don't fit in California's world view so f*** em'
as for guns blame the nra, Reagan and the Republicans. they were afraid of the black men.
Where do you come up with this sensationalist bulls*** Was the NRA scared of black men owning guns or black men not owning guns? What exactly are you saying. Commiefornia really has you brainwashed simp

Net result? California has had a net exit of people the last 2 years--WHICH people? The ones who are having to finance this
Quote
The San Francisco Chronicle shed some light on that phenomenon when one of its reporters dove into Internal Revenue Service data that revealed favorite destinations of high-income former San Franciscans.
The newspaper found that 39,000 San Franciscans who had filed federal tax returns for 2018 had moved out of the city before filing 2019 returns. Collectively, they took $10.6 billion in income with them while people who moved to the city during that period reported just $3.8 billion in income.
Lol ! Nice work of unsupported innuendo and falsehoods.
Taxes. California is the highest taxed state weighted for income, property, and sales taxes combined . https://worldpopulationreview.com/state-rankings/highest-taxed-states (https://worldpopulationreview.com/state-rankings/highest-taxed-states)
NRA, the Republicans, and Reagan hating the “Black Man” as the cause of gun violence in California is laughable at best and delusional at worst.
As for suffering BS what the heck does that even mean? You didn’t get the car you feel you deserved or what?
As far as 45 not paying any personal income taxes do you have any evidence that your statement is factual?
highest tax rate but most people don't pay that. 50k in Georgia tax is the same as somebody in california making 85k. look it up.
my base salary back when I used to work was 56k, state tax rate of 2.5. Georgia 5%. now tell me how taxes are killing me.

you just looking at state taxes not all taxes. you guys have no state tax, California does. it doesn't mean your taxes are lower. it just means no state tax, but the state needs money to function so they stick it to them in other ways.

because it takes total numbers. for example california has twice the number of millionaires as Texas, also 10 million more people. unless I'm mistaken and please correct me if I'm wrong, that's what they did.
so total numbers are misleading a bit. but if you take the average Joe on a salary of 50 or 60k, numbers might be different.

Let's look at everyday BS.
CALIFORNIA Sales Taxes State Sales Tax: California’s state sales tax is 7.25%. Local district taxes increase the tax owed by a seller, ranging from 0.10% to 1.00%. Given that some areas have multiple district taxes, the sales tax can be confusing. You can look up California sales tax by address to research rates. California charges an annual vehicle license fee of 0.65% of the purchase price, reduced for the first 11 years of ownership. Gasoline Tax: 80.87 cents/gallon (Includes all taxes) Diesel Fuel Tax: $1.06/gallon (Includes all taxes) Cigarette Tax: $2.87/pack of 20
TEXAS Sales Taxes State Sales Tax: 6.25% (groceries and prescription and over-the-counter drugs exempt); local taxes add up to an additional 2% for a total 8.25% sales tax. Gasoline Tax: 38.4 cents/gallon (Includes all taxes) Diesel Fuel Tax: 44.4 cents/gallon (Includes all taxes) Cigarette Tax: $1.41 dollars/pack of 20

BACK to the original thread. I've been looking into hydrogen powered cars (Porsche is working on a combustion engine literally powered by hydrogen, but for the most part we're talking fuel cells)
Fuel cells are simply another method of providing electricity to power an electric car, DOESN'T involve lithium batteries, and thus far I can find no reason not to push THEM instead of lithium battery vehicles?

I hear BMW and Porsche, among many others including Chevrolet, have been doing that for a while now. I had mine torn out with my stereo upgrade a few years ago.

yes. Lawmakers in Washington are already working in bills that require built in kill switches so police and "authorities" can remotely shut of your vehicle.
The new infrastructure bill has provisions for a test program to track cars through gps and they are already working to require car manufacturers to have gps trackers and "black boxes" in cars.

USA Your bank account may be frozen if your bank suspects fraud or illegal activity, or if they’re complying with a court order due to unpaid debts. The government can also request an account freeze for any unpaid taxes or student loans.
