Title: What's changed?
Post by: Elfie on August 24, 2022, 09:17:42 PM
I've been gone a long while, what's changed in the last say....10 years.

I started in February after like 15 years.

Graphics are better. A whole bunch of plane skins and they are VERY good

A lot more people spend their time playing in the dirt than back in the day.

Actual fighter pilots are a smaller group now and most are very good.

Still have some big maps and with the smaller census, they are not fun...unless you play in the dirt.

If it's been 10 years it will take a while to get your chops down. I'm close and it took 6 months. But then again, I suck.

Nighttime prime time census is around a 100.  More on Friday Saturday nights. Hit 130 for awhile.  Big maps kill the census, but the small ones bring in the people.

Off hours it's around 50 give or take.  With half playing in the dirt it's challenging to find a fight.  Furballs are in the past unfortunately. The hair will not catch on fire...

Regardless it's fun. Put in a couple hours a day. Good to be back.

I would almost be happy if it was that way. Currently, the numbers at off hours range between 10-20 (Euro morning, but with sometimes only 3 or four players actually active) to about 40 (Euro prime time). To get a glimpse of the action like it used to be in the past, I have now to stay up to 4 a.m.  :(

Concerning ground combat, a quick glimpse at played hours shows that there hasn't been a huge increase at all. Overall, players still spend >70% of their sortie time in the air.  Unfortunately, the ground activity has been largely reduced to a hide and seek game, especially during off hours, where it's sneak-a-base by large. True large GV battles are mostly extinct by now.

VR!

It's a game-changer in dogfights, and is the next step in immersion.  You really get a sense of the physical size of the aircraft you are flying, especially the P-38s.   And in the Italian Macchis, you get an appreciation of the tightness of the cockpits.  Hitech has implemented the best view-system of any flight sim I've tried VR in.  Basically, in AH you can still use the view-keys in VR, so you can see behind you without having to turn your head so far around-- it's a real neck-saver.  And Aces High has reasonable hardware requirements to get acceptable frame rates in VR.

Yea, VR is the biggest reason I'm playing as much as I do.

couple of more weeks till my rig gets here then three to 4 before my flight gear arrives.  I CAN NOT WAIT.  Going to take me a while to get up to speed with the vr, then some offline practice to get some basics down, TA for a bit, then I'm jumping in both feet.  Expect to see me up most week nights after 5 CST and weekends on any scenario that's up

What flight gear did you order that will take 3-4 weeks to get here?

Population has dropped to very low level.
At this point, just need the old free AI flying around bases so you can at least have something to shoot at.

100+ pilots in the game last night U.S. prime time.   Action was limited to a few bases along each front as far as I could tell, and the country imbalance was significant, so the Knights were in the barrel.

Some new faces as well - shout out to Smokwagn and Redman.  Seem to be jumping right in and learning the game.   Greet them if you see them online and make them feel welcome.
