Gas prices have shot up again and have been going up 13 to 18 cents every day. I just paid $6.87 at a gas station right by my house.
Listening to the news this morning analysts were saying that gas prices might go up another $0.60 before it stabilizes.
I've been hearing people on interviews that drive. Like Uber drivers. I don't know how they can afford this. But they have to buy the gas of course.
When I drove for Uber and Lyft with my Ford explorer, I barely broke even. And that was when prices were low.
They say that one of the reasons the prices are going up is that some of these refineries put off doing maintenance till now. But what was expressed on the news was that there are no shortages of gas. There are no gas lands or anything like that so even though they might be doing maintenance there is no real reason why gas would be more expensive. There's no more demand or anything.
As was also noted on the same news, refineries have been shutting down or leaving California because of regulations. I believe shell completely just shut down their refineries here.
-
With the strategic reserves being pulled soon the only thing that will keep prices down is if the economy tanks futher and ppl stop buying it..otherwise expect it to go back up maybe to a new record high

here near my city gas at arco is 5.75. well it depends, arco by freeway 50 cents more.
it's true the sell gas for more because they can.

Yeah the strategic oil reserve use was just a Band-Aid.
In California are gas prices are much higher than say, Texas or Arizona. We get taxed up the yin yang.
-
Gina while we do pay more taxes than texas or Arizona. then shouldn't gas prices be within let's say .75 as those states?
but reality is oil companies have a monopoly and they can charge as much as they want here. why is gas around here a dollar less than orange or LA counties. or why gas stations at freeway exits more expensive Than a gas station 2 blocks away. does it come in a better looking truck?
it's little things like that that makes you wonder.
semp

California gas tax is 53.9 cents per gallon. Arizona is 18 cents per gallon.
But California also has gas "fees" (they call them fees because they legally can't tax it) that make current total taxes over 1.18 a gallon.
Prices do vary by station. There is no law that says gas stations have to limit gas prices, but no matter what Californians are paying over 1 dollar more in taxes per gallon than in Arizona.
-
gas price I checked around here is 5.75 that's the cheapest I found. that includes all the fees and taxes.
in Arizona it's 4 bucks including taxes and fees.
would you like to know more? funny is gas around here is cheaper than where you live.

Arizona is a big state and the price varies. It's 4.88 a gallon right now at ARCO at 20838 N 19th Ave. 5 Dollars at Shell. It would be over 6 dollars if they were taxing like Calidornia.

Because I went to a Chevron. I think ARCO was close to a dollar cheaper.
This is from this morning. Outside sign was 10 cents less than the actual pump. Guess they didn't have time to change the sign since it's been changing so fast

Not that I keep up with the news that much in the past few years....I don't think it is how you see it, saying Tennessee accepts federal aid...hell...just about every state or territory of the US accepts and has accepted federal aid in 1 instance or another....
I know that here in NC that certain parts of our state government refuse and fight not to accept federal aid the best we can...
I've been purchasing gas 88 octane for around 2.769 per gallon (with out my rewards points/ discount it's 2.969 a gallon currently)
Nothing new under the sun and history always repeats itself.....the states that succeeded from the Union and started the war between the states (called the Civil War after the fact) ...seems like they history is coming back around to repeat....only difference this time is little over 160 years later everything has changed country wise, people migration so now they call it blue states vs red states what was once South vs North over "states rights" and the whole thing that even though slavery was on it's way out and the North taxing the hell out of the South to run their way of living and the North pushing its ideas and their ways of living and how to live and make the South live like them....
Now those with roots have moved all over the United States, etc... who knows what is to come 🤔... but back then the rumors of a war between the states, was first appearing some 33 years before it finally began.
As evolution in technologies has caused everything to move at "lightning speed" these days, they have been rumors of another "civil war" between the states since around 2013/2014 and things are moving a lot faster....hopefully it never comes to be...for it will be unreal to imagine
With that said, some of these states, like the mention of Tenn accepting federal aid...heck the current government will keep using all the tax money they take from the "red states" and will continue to give most of it to all the "blue states" and still see how all the "blue states" continue to pay higher prices for damn near everything except for maybe their legalized maurajuana
headed for the potpourri...in the Lady's Room....
Like the great one said "it's a crock of crap"
The End of That......

it isn't that tc, what bugs me is some states keep taxes low, cheap gas, you know things like that. instead of raising taxes or gas tax a bit, they keep it low. because some states depend 40 percent of their budget on federal government.
and guess where that money comes from, mostly blue states, plus texas and Florida.
and it's the attitude of look how well we are doing while let's say California is drowning in taxes. which the part of we doing great is a lie.
and while it's true that here we get money from the feds, we get 1 buck for every 3 we send.
like now Florida needs help big time. but a couple of years ago their senators voted against help in blue states. and I'm for Florida and the other states to get all the help they need.

State taxes do not go to the federal government. So federal aid comes from income tax mostly.
California sucks our money like a vampire and gives it to low-life chumps and illegal aliens..
And it's still a big crap hole and getting worse.

I think every state, should have it in there state constitution, to where the state has to balance it's budget every year...straight up
I really don't care for the way common wealth states operate....
Well, I've been sitting in the car with my Dog for aboutanhour...since my power has been out since before 6pm yesterday evening...trying not to use the propane for the backup power 🙃 😅...saving for worse/winter time...I got 6 12v outlets recharging multiple devices and fixing to head to my Sister's place, and just talked her into cooking me a good old fashioned country breakfast 🤣 😂 🤣 😂 got to love her!
Damn Ian and what was left of it came directly up across where I live....hahaha yea for me...more tree limbs to saw up and yard clean up....
Hope all have a blessed wonderful day!

Corporate income tax by far and away the largest source of where Fed Govt gets $ (aside from printing it).
- but of course, semp, you pay more than those large businesses and mega resort owners do, as you’ve said.
Before some get their skivvies all up in their craw, if you own stocks, mutual funds (shares) or have a 401k, then those unfair “tax breaks” help those corporations profit margins, you’re benefiting, see?
- I don’t think this is the best economic policy (btw), however it is the one we have.
Please cite/source your claim that “some states” gets 40% of their entire budget from the Fed Govt.

Much the same, just a different scale I believe.

Pump gas
In the United States gas stations describe the types of gasoline based on the Pump Octane Number (PON). That number is the average between RON and MON. This causes many problems.
If a fuel is 98 RON then it will be 93 PON -> 93 PUMP
If a fuel is 95 RON and 87 MON then it will be 91 PON -> 91 PUMP

Where I live, I and everyone else have access to
85 octane Flex Fuel - cheapest by the dollar but will use more and cost you more than using Unleaded Regular 87 octane
88 octane - next cheapest by the dollar, yet works better and gets more mpg and better engine performance/ power (only available to use in vehicles 2001 and newer - has cleaning additives added in)
87 octane- Unleaded Regular- what most use, actually saves one more than using 85 octane Flex Fuel (unless you have a 2001 or newer vehicle and can use the "Blue hose 88 octane)
89 to 91 octane - Unleaded Plus- cost more than the above 3 (85, 88, 87 octane fuels ) the octane level for Unleaded Plus varies depending on the supplier/ company
91 to 94 Octane - Unleaded premium- usually most times found as 92 or 93 octane and for some vehicles is all that is allowed per vehicle requirements
95 to 115 (have seen 124) octane- racing Fuel- in and around where I live you can actually buy this at gas stations (mainly Sunoco )
Diesel (Green hose & nozzle pump handle cover)
Flex Fuel (Yellow Hose & nozzle pump handle cover)
88 octane (Blue hose & nozzle pump handle cover)
87, 89 octane and up ( Regular black hose & handle cover)
Kerosene- Red hose etc...

Does California have state income taxes taken out of one's paycheck like NC? Just curious because I don't know...and haven't had to file / do taxes since 2009 ...
I do know that I really enjoyed working in Florida because there was no state income taxes
I do understand income taxes and how it works and being in different tax brackets based on one's income

Retirement Income Taxes: Social Security is exempt. All other forms of retirement income are taxed at the North Carolina flat income tax rate of 5.25%. Although the state taxes retirement benefits, the standard deduction is $8,750 for single filers, $17,500 for joint filers and $14,000 for heads of household.
Retired Military Pay: Exempt if the retiree had five years of creditable service as of August 12, 1989. Others may be allowed to exclude $4,000 of military retirement pay from income or $8,000 if married filing jointly.
Property Taxes
All property, real and personal, is subject to taxation and assessed based on 100% appraised value. Cities and counties collect property taxes at an average rate of 0.84%, or $1,454 on a $172,500 home—the state’s median home value.
People age 65 or older or who are completely and permanently disabled qualify for an exclusion based on a portion of the appraised property value. The qualifying income typically raises from year to year and is currently set at $33,800 or less. The greater of $25,000 or 50% of the residence appraised value may be excluded from taxes. Gifts or inheritances from a spouse or immediate family member do not count as income.
North Carolina’s Circuit Breaker Property Tax Deferment Program limits taxes for each year to a percentage of income. The qualifying owner must either be at least 65 years of age or totally and permanently disabled. The Current income limit is $33,800. Property owners with income over that amount but not exceeding 150% of the eligibility limit ($50,700 for 2021) will pay taxes equal to 5% of income. See North Carolina Property Taxes for more information.
Inheritance and Estate Taxes
North Carolina has no estate or inheritance tax.
CALIFORNIA
Sales Taxes
State Sales Tax: California’s state sales tax is 7.25%. Local district taxes increase the tax owed by a seller, ranging from 0.10% to 1.00%. Given that some areas have multiple district taxes, the sales tax can be confusing. You can look up California sales tax by address to research rates.
California charges an annual vehicle license fee of 0.65% of the purchase price, reduced for the first 11 years of ownership.
Gasoline Tax: $0.539/gallon (Includes all taxes)
Diesel Fuel Tax: $0.41/gallon (Includes all taxes)
Cigarette Tax: $2.87/pack of 20
Personal Income Taxes
Individual Taxes (Married Couple, combined income of 75,000): 10.30%
Effective Tax Rate: 9.63%
Social Security: Not taxed
Medical/Dental Deduction: Federal amount
Federal Income Tax Deduction: None
Retirement Income Taxes: Social Security is exempt, while all other retirement income is subject to state income tax. California taxes 2.5% of early retirement distributions and qualified pensions.
Retired Military Pay: Follows federal tax rules.
Property Taxes
The effective property tax rate in California is 0.76%, or $760 for every $100,000 of assessed value. For example, a homeowner will pay $1,371 in taxes on a $505,000 home—the median home value in the state.
California’s Homeowners Exemption reduces the taxable value of a home by $7,000 for qualified taxpayers. The property must be the principal residence for the taxpayer as of January 1 in the tax year.
The Property Tax Postponement Program is available to homeowners age 62 or older, or who are blind or have a disability to defer on their principal residence. Annual income must be less than $35,500, and the taxpayer must have at least 40% equity in their homes. A lien is placed on the property with a 7% interest on the amount outstanding. The lien is paid when the taxpayer sells the property, no longer uses it as a primary residence or dies. The California State Controller offers more information.
Inheritance and Estate Taxes
There is no inheritance tax or estate tax in California.
Someone was telling a fib about paying less in income taxes in CA than NC.

That would be a good tool for comparison, but what it doesn't account for is the pay scale differences of what a person gets for their job
In places like where I live versus working in bigger cities and places, states etc... the difference in what one might receive per hour in one location versus another could be anywhere from being paid 2 to 10 times more for the same type of work... hell here in NC that can change by living out in the country and surrounding small towns versus driving to the closest bigger cities etc and then moving to Florida, Dallas/Fort worth TX, Las Vegas etc... the pay increase is much higher
Hell, I never wanted nor asked to be on disability, my doctors (all of them) forced me into early retirement at 40/41 years old....it sucks...
I did elevate my position and knowledge continously from the time I got out of the Navy even up and while I was going through the disability process to obtain the best/ highest possible position and salary I could reach... I kept adding to my resume and taking college classes and other things... for I worked on being the best at what I did in all categories...basically that was ingrained in my raising at a very early age

Oh happy days, the prices seem to go down where I live! Diesel was only €2.09/litre today, it used to be in the €2.20 range. Gas was more or less depending on the octane.

somebody looked up the wrong tax tables. 75k income married total tax little over 2k. in NC little over 3.9k. I did my taxes using the state website. it didn't match the info from other sites.
and nc has a car road tax. about the same as what california calls registration fees.

NC has registration fees too. Most states do.
California taxes the living hell out of everything and then spends the money on garbage and derelicts. The state is falling apart and they want MORE money.
As of June 17th, California has a 87 BILLION dollar budget SURPLUS and a 300 BILLION dollar budget. And they want more. And what do they spend it on if everything is falling apart?
The idiots keep voting for more taxes every time one comes up for a vote. I guess the people getting a free ride have no problem taxing people who work hard, and rich people. They love soaking the rich. It's not their money.

You mean the graphic in the article?
The graphic reportedly contains 2018 data from the Institute of Taxation and Economic Policy (ITEP), which compiled statistics regarding IRS income tax, sales tax, property tax, and information from Bureau of Labor Statistics' Consumer Expenditure Survey from sources including the U.S. Census Bureau

California has over 1 million millionaires.
That’s 10% of NC population. Ain’t hard to figure out why taxes are higher in NC, which is offset by a much less expensive cost of living.
-
NC registration was 20 bucks when I lived there. people were happy to tell us that. till we did taxes and found out about the road tax or whatever is called. it was more than what we paid in california. also state taxes surprised the heck out of us. company offered short term interest free loans.
on the other hand insurance car and health was less but food was more expensive. I liked living in north Carolina was uptight but nice.

Food in NC more expensive than the Antelope Valley area or San Bernardino area - iirc that’s where you are…
Food definitely not more expensive than in major CA cities.
Pulled pork sandwich here at a decent bbq place last week, $16, no sides or drink. Similar sandwich up in Payson or Prescott is probably $10. City vs. town…
* Same pulled pork sandwich at same place in 2019 was $12 and you got two sides

Firehouse Subs <S>
-
Love my Firehouse Subs! Particularly the "Engine Company Hot Sub" which hasn't been on the menu for over 10 years from Florida to North Carolina and most likely everywhere...but if you ask for it they still serve you 😉
A damn hotdog costs average $3.39 or thereabouts these days 😒 🙄..... I remember the days of getting 5 hotdogs for $1....
Semp, vehicle inspection is around $38/$40 then property taxes on vehicle then registration & tags
Sales tax is 7 to 9.25 % depends on the county and city... except when buying groceries
If one has the ability, it's easy to keep freezers horizontal/ vertical packed with venison, turkey, etc... dove & quail season is in right now...deer season with rifles soon approaching (bow season has been in and black powder as well I do believe...) then there is fishing 🎣...cheaper to live of the land to be seriously honest... I didn't get to do my garden this year, but damn sure will next year...

Sadly, medium Firehouse sub with honey ham and turkey, chips, drink, gone from $9 to $13

What only a 50% increase...
Imagine if prices soared like this 6 to 4 years ago the noise and actual protests that would have been spun up as social justice causes?
It would have been additional shopping opportunities for 10's of 1000's
