I had a great uncle that was at Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7th 1941. My grandfather went there a few months later to help with repairs. He was an electrician and worked on radar. My grandfather told me that his brother and others there said that for weeks after the bombing you could hear the men that were still trapped inside the ships tapping on the hull. They just couldn't get to some of them. Something not always thought of when Pearl Harbor is discussed.

That is a scary thought. I can't imagine what those people went through.

I really do like playing games like AH. But when you think about it we are playing at 'simulating' causing things like that. AH is a very toned down sim. We don't have the arms and legs flying around in the explosions. It isn't a directly FPS game. But if you think about it people are strange. I'll say it again, I like to play AH. They were in total darkness, probably up to their necks in water, without food, their air was probably polluted by smoke and/or petroleum fumes and possibly injured or burned.
They could probably hear the people tapping back and the sounds of workman trying to reach them. And then they died.
Many lived two weeks or longer while entombed in those hulls; some even survived until Christmas.

I doubt it. There was no serious effort to rescue them

when USS Oklahoma was straightened up, and parties came into it, there were calendars found.
One had markings up to mid- May-1942 (or march, cant remember well, but I think it was may)...

I saw something on the Discovery channel (or something similar) on this...very true. They couldn't be rescued because of something to do with the water pressure or something to that effect. Thinking at the time was a rescue attempt would have most likely killed the rescuer's and those trapped too, so the story goes.
