Oboe requested another 365th FG jug skin for the Battle of Paris scenario and thanks to Lyric1 kindly found me the info for this one.
"Beautiful" was the P-47D flown by Captain William Ritchie, CO of the 386th Fighter Squadron. It has the lower D Day stripes on the wings and fuselage used by Allied aircraft from July to September 1944. These markings didn't prevent all friendly fire incidents though and this aircraft was badly damaged by AA fire from Allied ships in July. A replacement left tail plane was left in it's camouflage paint and this wasn't stripped off until later in the year. The squadron's main role was ground attack and so the scoreboard featured rows of milk bottles for milk runs and corn liquor jugs for dicier attack missions, as well as a lone cross for one of the two air to air kills Ritchie was to score during the war. Post war he stayed in the air force and later served in both Korea and Vietnam.
