Title: If you could have one car back, which one would it be ?
Post by: nopoop on March 23, 2023, 03:21:41 PM
I have owned a bunch, and have pictures of NONE of them. Owned a bunch of hoopdees along with these: 1964 Corvette 67 Porshe 912 2006 Corvette convertable 1964 Bug 72 Spitfire (brand new) 64 Olds Dynamic 88 62 Olds Dynamic 88 60 Bugeye Austin Healy 69 Chevelle 4 speed car (brand new) 1943 Jeep 56 F100
Out of all the cars I have owned, there is only one that I wish I could have back. My first. A 1957 Triumph TR3. It cost my Dad $400. It had a rod knock. Rebuilt the engine with two friends in my dads garage. Loved that car and can't afford one now.
What's yours ? This pic is not my car.... :bhead

Familiar plate, lived there almost 15 years.
My choice would be -79 Dodge D150 Stepside Warlock. The one in pick is same color but mine had chrome wheels and was missing wooden railings on bed.
Friend of mine in high school had a little red express. Fun truck with a little work.
That was a beast w/ 360 Police Special. Mine had bit tuned 360 and left almost everything on Finnish streets back then behind it up to around 100 mph. Then run out of gear (3.73 rear) and laws of physics, as it was as aerodynamic as orthodox church.. :D

Nice!!! This is one car I never understood why they stopped making or brought to the US, not that I really knew anything about them, but I always thought they were cool.

1994-1999 Ferrari F355. Never owned one but I think it's the most aesthetically perfect of all Ferrari's. Yes, even more so than the GTO, Dino, F40, or Testarossa. (https://www.supersprint.com/public/img/ferrari-f355-gts-wallpaper-hd-70801-399151.jpg)

I miss my Saab 9-3s. Solid, comfortable cars but fun to drive with 6 speed manual and turbo. Here is my 2007 at the Stonehenge Memorial in Oregon, 2018.
My first car was a ‘72 Duster, Basin St Blue, Semp. 225 slant six.

For purely sentimental reasons I'd like to have my first car, a 61 Dodge Lancer 4 door. It wasn't anything special just a grocery getter from Dodge and only made for 2 years but it was the car I learned to really work on cars with and I drove it for 4 years and about 8 or so clutches after replacing the original 170 CI slant 6 with a 225 CI slant 6 from a junk yard car.
The car I wish I had never let go was a 78 Datsun 280Z 2+2. Fast untra reliable and just fun to drive but crappy paint. Drove it for 99,900 miles.

63 Ford Falcon station wagon with a 170 straight six. Back seats folded down flat, great for camping and drive in movies. As long as you didn't have a big hill to go up. :old:

327. Vin number showed it was originally a 4spd FI car.
The Good ? Cost $1300. Repaint in powder yellow 8 out of 10..Dark blue interior 9 out of 10.
The bad ? For some reason an automatic geared rear end, probably a 308 was installed. Made the gears really tall. Clutch didnt like starting on a hill. Like over 100mph in third. #8 was begining to go flat. Would pop thru the carb on occasion.
With an engine rebuild and swapping the rearend to a 336 posi it would have an 8 out of 10 car. Couldnt afford it. Sold it for $1800 :frown:

Although all of my cars have served me more or less well, I don't want any of them back.
I bought my first car at the age of 32 or so, an Audi 100 from '82 with some half a million kilometres behind it. Had it for a couple of years, sold it with 620k in the meter. Then went to old MB's, a W124 sedan followed by a five years younger wagon and after crashing it bought a W210 facelift which got a gear box failure after a few years after which I got this current W210.
When I got my license at the age of 18 my dad had the intention of getting me an old banger to learn the basics, instead he bought a house and let me drive his Fiat 127 whenever he was abroad which happened often enough. Later I got a job as a sales rep and the company gave me a new car to drive every couple of years. Starting with a Nissan Cherry, followed by a Toyota Carina II, a Peugeot 205, a VW Golf II, a Jetta II and a Vento.
Don't miss any of them.

I dug around and found the only photo of one of my vehicles. The 56 F100. My first attempt at a full restoration. Had 4 weeks vacation and broke it down to a frame on wheels. Wire wheeled the frame and painted. Rebuilt the front end with steering box. My first time doing body work and paint. Lol it took months. Had the 312 rebuilt..Came with three on the tree. Traded it for the bone stock 43 jeep. Even still had blackout lights.
But the TR3 is the one I would want back...

Brand new 70 Boss 302 out the door for less than $4000 had wide ratio trans with 350 posi. Third gear came alive at 80. Would come along side Super Bee's and Road Runners get them up to 80 and just beat them easy. Dragged a Super Bee and beat him easy thou his moter was making bad noises. It came out 3rd around 120 mph after that I never looked at the Speedo once I hit 4th.It reved like a Kawasaki 500.Sold it for $1800 with a fresh moter! :x :x

I would enjoy hearing Icepac's 427 Caprice start up, idle, and rev up a few times, just for old time's sake. I hope that car is in the hands of someone now who properly cares for and maintains it. That is a '69 if not mistaken. Friend from high school's dad had a Caprice wagon with the same engine, he pulled a fifth wheel with it.
Very interesting to see the Chevy Citation on someones list. Haven't seen on of those in ages; wondered what became of them. GM's first vehicle with front wheel drive and transverse mounted engine, I think?

Transverse mounted yes but not the first FWD,that was the toronado.

69 bug was very educational.. from carb to brakes to undercoating..but fun to drive
The wipers would stick so I had to put a cd case bit in the windshield molding so that they wouldn't go to far a get stuck..otherwise I had to flick them with my left hand to keep them going in the rain
Had to rolling start it more than once :)

I think my two most favorite cars were my bugs. The 69 I had I got cheap because it had a blown engine . bought a rebuilt with a sweet cam in it with some pipes that came out the normal spot but turned out under the bumper. They were like "glass-packs" from the old days. I had the idle down so low you could count the "thumps" as it fired each cylinder. :D
Second one was a 72 Super bettle with a bit of custom work I did on it. Just had a 1600 with a single carb, but it was as much fun to drive as the other one.
I sold my cherry '69 Bronco before I moved from FLA in '95 for $3500. Prolly worth $35K now
Those old Broncos are going for STUPID money now. I was shocked.

1979 Z/28–My first F-body, over the 5 years I owned it did a lot of mods and experimentation. Finally ended up with a rectangle port 454, 200hp nitrous set up, TCI 3500 stall converter, and a TCI TH-350. Lotsa fun in that thing in all forms, from the initial Bow tie head 406 small block with a 4 speed Muncie to the big block. Lotsa memories there…. 1979 Trans Am—Bought pre-internet, found the original build and sales documentation in the glove box. Somehow, I doubt I could do it without internet now, I tracked down the original owner who told me his story of buying it in NJ and moving to Dallas two days later, then selling it to his brother in law inWichita Falls, who removed the factory 4 speed and converted it to automatic. Research showed it to be a fairly rare car with the Pontiac 400, 4 speed, color, and T-tops. Traded it to a kid for his 1986 Monte Carlo SS; he then wrapped it around a tree less than a week later. Stupidly, I turned down an offer from the original owner to buy the car from me at three times what I paid for it. Stupid, stupid, stupid……… 1968 Chevy C10-My first vehicle, bought from my paternal grandfather. Long narrow steps ode bed, 307 engine, 4 speed with granny 1st gear. No a/c, manual windows, etc…….as plain Jane as they come. But that truck would be the one Inwish I had again, for sentimental value.

I can't pick just one. Most of the cars I've owned I would like to have now in one form or another. My first car, a 1962 Oldsmobile F85 Cutlass, My first truck, 1960 F100, 2wd, short box that I dropped a 390, and a 4 gear into. I drove that from CA to TX after HS graduation. It had a leaf sprung, solid front axle. That was 1983, it was quite the adventure. A 1968 F100, short box, that I dropped the aforementioned 390 and 4 gear into. A 1974 Toyota Celica notch back, That was a very fun canyon carver. The 1990 Mustang 5.0 was a lot of fun bone stock. I'm kind of fond of my current 1991, F350 4x4 std cab that a put a P-pumped 12v Cummins in. And then there are others that I would like to have that I never personally owned, but have experienced in one form or another.
So maybe just one for each day of the week, plus two on Sunday.
If I'm dreamin' I'm gonna dream big.

My uncle has a special built GT40,on the door sills there’s a placard that says built by Ford for… and my uncles name. He was a big wig at Fords and when he retired they presented him with the car.
It’s done in white with the blue stripes just like the old factory racers.
When he came to my Dad’s funeral he was driving a Porsche SUV,when I asked about it he said it was the first car he bought in years then asked if I wanted to take it for a spin which I gladly took him up on,when the turbos kicked in it almost scared me!

Had it nineteen years and drove it 199,200 miles before the engine blew. That was the best vehicle I've ever had and probably will ever have. Oh man, the times we had. It was a great little truck.

The car I had in high school. 1977 Cutlass Salon.
I've had two vehicles in my life that just 'fit' me and I knew from the moment I sat in them I could make it do anything I wanted it to do. That one and a 2000 Mustang convertible.
If I ever win the lottery a 77 rebuilt from the ground up with modern electronics will be at the top of the list for buys.
