Not going to name names, you all can, but why are people allowed to just sit idle in hanged for HOURS?
Not just a gripe but also a real question by me? :old:
-
If it's intentional, too easy to circumvent.
Plus in the past there was much wailing and gnashing of teeth for reasons I am sure I do not know why that they might get booted from the game if they went idle for 20 mins accidentally and it was simply too onerous of a task to relaunch the game.
But mostly it's because it's too easy to get around.
Wiley.
-
I feel like being inactive for an hour would warrant a boot. It seriously mess with ENY and the auto switch function.
-
I think paying the monthly sub enables one to play it anyway they want...
If that is logging in, sitting in the tower and staying there all day is their choice...
This isn't like the other games where someone is running the server themselves and it is free to play imo
Not enough subscribers for 3 countries and for better gaming it should be reduced to 2 imo

They play it any way they want under the construct of the terms and conditions. HiTech can easily change that to include inactivity thresholds. Seems pretty normal. I would sign the new update to keep playing. I would love to hear who would rather walk away than agree to that.
-
Probably those guilty of tower sitting now..
I don't know why one would want to do that but it is his $15
At least higher numbers gives the impression you might find a fight better than lower numbers if they were booted..might be a marketing thing

-
any time this is brought up there are a bunch of excuses ......
"I took a bump and dont want to get booted"
Company dropped by and I forgot to log off"
"Wife ack hit and I forgot to log off"
....and so on and so on.
Hitech explained his reasoning here

That was 8 years ago, maybe things change. I’m not looking at from the eny perspective because I never really care what I can or cannot fly, I just play. I’m more concerned with the integrity of the sides. It’s not a dealbreaker to me either way I was just curious.
-
IMHO tower sitting in and of itself is harmless. The problem as far as I am concerned is ENY. It needs to be restricted and reduced to accommodate for the lower #'s. Dale is open to ideas but at the end of the day it works most of the time hence why it remains.
For some people this game is more than a game. It's a part of their routine day in and day out. If your not one those folks then it's really difficult to get someone to understand why someone might stay in the game even though they are not playing.
It's another one of those is what it is in today's AH. Just don't let an issue like this fester in your mind for extended periods of time like I have. It made me bitter and effected my ability to enjoy the game for what it is. Even threw a few tantrums over it and all I accomplished was looking like an idiot :x

What do you mean by the bolded part? I dont understand what a tower sitter could do to the sides?

That is because you sparingly play these days. Something ive always known about you is you struggle to see things outside of your own perceptions but will speak loudly when you disagree out of ignorance :neener:
Fugitive is the kinda player that ups a P38, patrols around for 20 minutes working extremely hard against enemy fighters just to throw it all away attacking my bombers by coming up dead 6... then goes on 200 and whines about it like I am the one who did something wrong hahahaha

Funny I thought I had ask "Dadtallica" a question, do you have a third account to go along with the other two you are using?
It could be because I usually play only on Saturday nights that Im asking the question.

I remember way back in the day there being an issue with spies albeit that was before the auto switching.

I cant prove it, but I dont think there is as much "spying" going on that people think there is. With the dar bar, dot dar in a radar zone or proximity dot dar and just plain old word of mouth it is very easy to follow the play of the game. Some players make it an art to do it. Lusche was a master at it when he played. For the most part you just have to pay attention.
Now with the auto side switch the opportunity is there even more, but again Id say most dont use that info to their advantage. They just want action, who is doing what isnt important.

You’re right about most I assume. Some people not so much lol. Auto switchers should not have cv control at least.

Only 2 accounts used on the same side I am playing on. Shade cheating is still active today amongst a few players I won't name. All for the sake of base defense. I used to absolutely hate the act but have come to embrace it as an element to the game that I have to overcome. Experienced it just 2 days ago. Is what it is.
I enjoy having to adjust my strategy to shade cheating. Makes it extremely rewarding when it happens and the objective is still achieved. It's like rock, paper, scissors to me.

Sorry 'bout the stupid question but what is this shade cheat?

Shade cheating is done by using 2 accounts on separate countries to gather Intel via the map. For example, if a country is trying to take a base without a gv spawn it must be done via goon. In order to track the goon, players will use their second account to "spy" out the goon. Still goes on today witnessed this last week. It's not as rampant as in times past but it still exists.

Absolutely, goon pilots fool themselves in thinking; "if I go the shortest and most direct path on the deck no one will find me".. :old:

and see that' is the honorable thing to do right?
In the case a few days ago, the base that the goon lifted from was almost 2 sectors away from the capture base. The enemy plane came from another base and met the goon at the half way point by flying directly to the goon. No CV was in the area. Goon flying W nme plane was flying south and the timing of the interception was perfect. There was an entire sector search for the goon.... sometimes it isn't luck, it's knowledge.
The two alleged players are notorious for this kind of play. I stopped getting upset about this. It's just an element of the game that has to be overcome. I am not wasting my time to police this game I just laugh and move on.

a goon can be seen from 6k away along with a sector counter is not that difficult. specially if the fight is on another direction from the base.

I was referring to those who give away intel like boat positions or country chatter.

How about make eny more fluid? Anyone in the tower or in the air without game input for 10 minutes doesn't factor into the formula. Just spitballing here. I don't even log in anymore so I'm not sure how bad it is.

That's a good solution, IMHO.
It prevents ENY being distorted, but doesn't penalize the player and so the player would not be motivated to try and circumvent.
Players can know that going AFK in the tower is fine and doesn't hurt their team. AFK Safe-Space.
-
maybe they should make it to where you can be killed in the tower.. LOL.. I can hear the whining already

I can get behind this!

Shades to spy has gone on since early AW days (which started in 87, Yes, despite the 10-14 yr lapse, I've been playing a very long time). It's nothing new. This obviously went on in real wars too.
I'll sit in the tower and figure out where a decent fight is worth flying to, or if I'll log off, or just grabbing a cam position for Fixed mode for a period of time. I've also gone AFK and forgot I was even still logged on.
I've been kiiled in the tower 3 times since I've been back.
On the biz side of things, in shade accounts, I recklessly assume they are also paying for 2 accounts. It's not a well thought out tactic.

there's eny. a squad sits in the tower for 10 minutes. they up at the same time. that's. how HITECH put it years ago.

having multiple accounts is OK. Using one to shade however is strictly forbidden.

ENY has nothing to do with planes in the air regardless of what you think he said years ago. It has to do with the # of players logged into the game whether in the air or in tower.
-

How would that be different than the current system when a large squad all logs in at once?
Or when a large squad all logs out at once?
Treat sitting in the tower like you would logging out. (For ENY purposes.)
Treat leaving the tower like you would logging in. (For ENY purposes.)
Whatever edge cases occur when player go into and come out of the tower is no different that when they log in or out. So you are not creating a new class of problem.
What you are doing is solving the problem of a bunch of guys sitting in the tower while they go to mall or mow their lawn from janking up ENY. And since you are not punishing the squatter, there is no incentive for them to circumvent the logic.
A good solution shouldn't be the enemy of a perfect solution.

Ya I THINK it always has been forbidden, but they do it anyway. Locks are for honest people. >IMO<, I don't think putting a 2 hour cap on it would be unreasonable. In moderation, I just don't see it causing a problem. I think, no matter what ya do to a game, it's going to have that gamer environment around, nature of the beast.
I could be wrong, but "back in the day" Timeouts help take unnecessary pressure off the slower server connections Today it's not so much an issue. It could kick in when the arenas get full tho.

with the emphasis on "think" unfortunately my dear friend you are sadly mistaken. Dozens and dozens of players have ran multiple accounts over the years. Many have used them for shade cheating. I never will. I have spoke to Dale on the subject and am in the clear. Tunes at one point had 6 accounts and would use them all on NOE smash and grabs back in the day. :x
This is the reason the HQ wars took place. The 49ers became obsessed with destroying enemy HQs in gv's from long distance without flashing it to the extent that they did because of shade cheaters. Nothing was done about it and so they broke the game.
Some of the great fighter pilots back in the day would run multiple accounts simply to be able to fight who they were competing against for fighter and overall rank so as to not affect their score if they were shot down. Hunt the best players and lower their score basically. My former CO SFox left the game over this after presenting evidence of its occurring and nothing being done about it. If I'm not mistaken that was Skyrrs final straw too which is why he exposed the shady stuff going on in the game by doing it himself and putting it on YouTube as to mock HTC about it.
To simply deny a paying customer the opportunity to subscribe to multiple accounts is bad for business. At the end of the day this is a business
I just chose to use my accounts for logistical purposes in winning the war. 2 for 1 on my time investment in a game that requires perfection is well worth 30 a month. It can become a nightmare to manage when there is a lot of red in the sky let me tell you but I manage.

LOL.....you guys lobbied for most of the changes that made this sim unplayable.
All in the name of instant action within a phone booth.

I was just referring to sitting in the tower. I just play when I can. I’m detached and u aware of common antics of some, and most bugs. Not knowing is a fun place for me to be. When i was GS for AW I did a lot of head hunting for these things. I think there are other things done in wide open that are damaging to the game. Just talking about things encourages some to try. What they otherwise did not think of.
But thats just me. <shrug>
I just try to mind my own biz and bite fingers that stick in my peaceful pie.
