Great job.  The XOI is bolder (more opaque) than the rest of the insignia.   Otherwise excellent.

Few pics if you don't have them already.

All the profiles have the girl wrong.
I have a close up of her.

Thank you guys.  Lyric, as always you're a great help.  I can see I need to change the prop boss to red from blue, and add a little more tilt to the figure.  I can understand how some profilers mistook her for the "Little Miss Mischief" figure from the B-17 nose art, but she is distinctly different upon close examination.   It looks like they tried to remove the red from some of the cowl flaps later on also.

The darker blue tails and different lightning bolt shapes in the color pictures make me think there was a late-War repaint of the tails using a darker blue color.  My source for the lighter blue was a page from the 79th FG's Group History book:

You can also see here that in some photos, X01's bottom lightning bolt on the tail has 4 segments; in others she has only 3.  It appears in later versions, the bolts have gaps between the segments.

Vraciu, I probably strayed a little too solid on the X01 to ensure the white border stands out.  It's currently set at 80% opacity but I'll tweak it a bit.

Lyric with the goods!

When I have to do borders like that I create a different layer for the white vs the black,  etc., that way I can create s mask for each color and customize the opacity.   You might get away with a single layer mask, just make it lighter than standard.

Don't know how much detail you have on the  name badges for the pilot crew chief and armourer that are painted on just under the cockpit.

Here are some examples.

He seems to have the same arrangement.

Ha!  Nopoop, I haven't forgotten!

I have info that X01 was assigned to the 85th FS CO, a Capt Edwin Payne.   Perhaps later in the War it became the Group CO's aircraft?
Wondering if I should submit it as "79FG/85FS" or "79FG/HQ"...

I do have the Wings, Wrench, and Bomb decal on the left side, but I didn't know what it symbolized.  That makes sense as a crew ID plate.  Too small to fit writing inside though.

No, don't submit it as an 85th aircraft.

You still need to make me an 85th aircraft with the squadron emblem on the cowl. :pray

Hah! I just submitted it as '79FG/HQ', so I'm glad I made the right call.  That makes 3 D-25s and 3 D-40s for me; I'd like to try to get a trio of D-11s completed before I circle back to requests (your 85th FS bird, and Nopoop's Gabreski 56th FG D-25).  I may also adopt a few M's and N's - they seem to be the most often flown in the MA.

I can also shift things around if a certain skin becomes necessary for an event.  But I better complete my D-11 and N templates...

Found a colour image of the 79th's hack B-25. Clearly done in the earlier colour blue.
