Title: Some pics from Mallorca
Post by: DmonSlyr on June 13, 2023, 02:01:11 PM
First time traveling abroad to Europe, specifically Mallorca. I'm sitting here right now enjoying my last night with some Disaronno and coke. I'll throw one of me in there for the first time ever!  :x as im in a good mood and don't care. The rest I took myself. The land and woman are absolutely gorgeous 😍 the food has been very delicious! We stayed in Soller and Cala Major. 2 very different but fun places. We have really enjoyed our time here!

Thanks! The socialist could have a bit more AC in their shops/buildings as it gets damn hot walking around all over haha, other than that it has been alright. The first hotel had amazing AC so that was nice. Some of the shops have been hit or miss, we'd come back the next day to buy something and they'd be closed. Oh well.  I prefer the way American restaurants operate with service but it hasn't been bad at all here. The food has been damn good though.  :aok

Yes I was quite surprised about that and thought it was cool myself! Even showed my wife on the map, however at the time it was on the other team so I wasn't able to fly over it.

Haha joking aside, it is actually quite clean here trash wise in the places we've been. Which has been really nice to see.

One strange thing to me is that showers didn't have full glass or curtains to cover the whole shower. The glass went half way, which meant I had water going all over the floor and everything lol.

Also, in the first place we stayed. 5 star resort. Very nice place, but didn't have king size beds. They had to put to rolling twins together, which was sort of a pain because the rollers wouldn't lock. The second place in Soller did have a King, however it was almost like sleeping on a wood plank lol. Just minor things, but overall the trip has been great.

If you like unfettled Roman ruins that are just sat out in the open you should hop over to the other island in the chain to Menorca.
We went there in 1993, and it was fantastic. There were loads dotted around the island out in the middle of farmland to explore  :old:

In my experience that's generally true all over Europe.  No idea why they're so hostile to shower curtains or doors.

restaurants - if you look carefully most are operated by owners - and they have the "work/life balance" thing going. It is a hassle when you want to eat something and everything is closed, but once you factor it into your day plan, it's quite ok. Definitely try "evening dinner that lasts till midnight" in the outside restaurant... life is good in Mediterranean. ;)

I'll in southern Spain in 3 weeks myself. Grenada. Can't wait.

Yeah it seemed like hours were certainly hit or miss depending on the day for shops. We did have a couple of late dinners, the last night was at 10pm haha. Though it feels like 7 when it doesn't get dark until 9pm. Had slow cooked lamb shoulder out of the crock pot and it was absolutely delicious! The food and land (and no top woman in thongs on the beach  :lol) were my favorite parts for sure!

Huh? Admitted I haven't been in most European countries but everywhere I've been there's been a full height glass wall/door or a curtain. The only exception of that rule has been in cases where there's a bathtub taking care of the lowest quarter.

What puzzles me more is that in many countries there's no floor drain in the bathroom. That's why as a kid I didn't quite understand the cartoon/film jokes about a flooding bathroom creating Niagara Falls in the upstairs steps. The most extreme example for me has been the shower cubicle being in the room on the thick carpet! That was in Berlin (West) in a cheap hotel with toilets and bathrooms in the hallway. All the moisture sucked into the carpet... Yuck!

a
For me that would be exotic but for a different reason: Up here the Sun rises at 3am and sets at 11pm, plus the nautical twilight. During June and July it doesn't actually get dark at all, even with the curtains down there's no need for any lights to go safely to the toilet in the middle of the night. No streetlights needed either - it's kinda funny to go to bed after sunrise after a night on the town!

European countries where I haven't been can be counted with 1 hand fingers and must say, there's been all kind contraptions called bathroom. Those with carpet and without floor well were common in older houses in central Europe and the smell was sometimes... interesting.

Ventilation is often missing, or it is just a propeller whining in ventilationn tube and no any kind of valve or hole for incoming air. Often door even made as airtight as possible, fan in tube screraming in pain like trying to suck from a bottle. Mold common especially in Belgium.

In East Europe small toilet with hand shower without any kind of curtain or protection is relatively common, even in hotels. One have to evacuate toilet paper and anything else not desired to be wet before shower, but at least they all have floor well.

When we lived in Tynemouth England in the early 70's neighbors shared bathrooms as it was one for at least two flats with a gravity fed toilet..

We rented the entire townhouse which normally held up to 3 families

Neat experience for a 12 year old from New Orleans
