Has anyone seen this trailer yet? Some really cool shots of Japanese planes flying under radar. Too bad we have to wait another year before it comes out!

Is that the movie that will feature P38s defending Pearl Harbor in 7 december 1941? (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/mad.gif)

Just FYI. The Japs Did not fly in under dar. They were detected well out of the harbor but were mistook for an incoming flight of B-17's due for a refueling stop before going to California. Plus, when the air raid sirens went off after the bombs began falling, many of the sailors still in their bunks thought it was a training exercise. By good luck, the American carriers, which were the primary target, were out at sea. Just a little history fact (from what I know.) (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

Holywood has made its name on relaxed realism, look at the recent U-Boat film where the yanks did it all and saved us silly Brits, Saving Private Ryan where the Americans were the only ones there on D-Day and of course who can forget how John Wayne and Telly Savalas won WWII on their own TWICE! remarkable! (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

The trailer reeks of Armageddon meets WW2 to me. The shot of Liv Tyler lovingly carressing her boyfriend in the water as the camera pans around the two of them smacks of the shallow, quick 'n easy characterizations of Micheal Bay's Armageddon. The planes look great though.
I just get the nagging feeling this one is gonna suck.

This is getting old, here and in the wwiionline forum. If UK citizens have a prob with Hollywoods depiction of history, crank up the studios and make one to their liking (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif). As far as the movie Private Ryan goes, get over it. Just because "Tommy" wasnt featured in it wasnt a slight, it was a story about Americans, our fathers and grandfathers did fight there didnt they?
Sorry for the offtopic post. This steams me for some reason

OKAY... LETS CALL IN SICK to WORK MEMORIAL DAY 2001. As for going to SUCK... I DONT THINK SO!.. For once they are going to use ACTUAL Zeros... no T6 Texan toejam. I believe it was last months issue of CLASSIC AVIATION or AVIATION HISTORY had a 8 page article on this. IT IS GOING TO BE VERY VERY COOL!

Wait.. do you mean Tom Cruis didn't shoot down 3 migs that looked suprisingly like F5's? I don't believe you... I don't believe you... I don't believe you!
look at the recent U-Boat film where the yanks did it all and saved us silly Brits
There is nothing silly about having to save you Brits AGAIN.
Saving Private Ryan where the Americans were the only ones there on D-Day
Not true.. when they panned across the beach, I saw three blokes sitting down for tea... right before a bomb hit.
and of course who can forget how John Wayne and Telly Savalas won WWII on their own TWICE! remarkable! (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)
Hey... John Wayne winning WWII twice doesn't compare to how many times he won the west.

Don't forget the Iron Eagle films, and lets not forget Armageddon and Deep Impact where the oh so silly world sat back waiting for America to save the day, and when they did include a Russian he was portrayed as a half-wit (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif) and we owe the President of the united states a debt of gratitude for saving the world in Independance Day and I'm sure he would have saved the day sooner if he had a jumbo with the flight characteristics that they had in Airforce 1 (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif) Yep Holywood does work on relaxed realism alrighty (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

Ohh yes, recent WW2 sub movie (damn I already forgot the name, say it all about it) too had better cinematics then old Das Boot. Unfortunatly it was the only thing that was better.

Just want to add, I'm not saying movie will suck, simply noting that the fact that movie has Zeros means nothing. There should be much more to the movie then use of a right plane.

Damn, all this and I just wanted to show everyone some cool shots of Japanese planes flying by! Is anyone really that surprised that Hollywood sucks, is the root of all evil, the vortex to hell or that Americans are the most wonderful thing in the world since sliced bread in our movies? LOL a war movie from Disney?? I smell another pro-americain propaganda movie (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)
BTW SUPERFLY if u really loved the jap planes you would convince HT and pyro to add the co2 canisters near the fuel tanks that were an attempt to put fire's out. Would be nice to have this and activate it by pressing "o" in the zeke.
-
Well, I don't know about the rest of you, but I don't go to movies to learn history. I go for entertainment. This looks entertaining, hence, I will probably go see it.
I will nitpick one thing though (and I may be wrong on this): it looked like the Zekes were painted green. I know the Kates were green during this perios, but I am almost positive that the zekes were the light gray in '41. Still, it looked kind of cool.

Good post by DeJaVu...
Its true the US saved the UK twice... only because Churckhills mother was a yank..it certainly wasn't for the food.... It looks like anyone with a 17% VAT tax needs saving again....

mx22,
I know about using the proper plane thing does not make the movie BUT!! All I got to say is go read last months issue of Classic Aviation and u will understand. FOR ONCE they are making a real effort to follow history and having the real deal planes makes a difference to the aviation buff because its goning to be the aviation buffs that are goning to be the most critical of the movie. Granted there will be the typical Hollywood markup on it but...THIS is going to WORTH the money no matter what the critics say.
THANKS for the news leak SUPERFLY!!!

Excuse me, I certainly appreciate every effort that was done to defeat the nazi regime, but there should be drawn a solid line between history and hollywood. History is a long gone time. Hollywood is there to make money, and acknowledging this doesn't mean to ignore history.

The graphics on the swarm of planes makes me sick, its too bright and clotty.

What really saddens me about the pro-US films is that now almost all WWI vets are dead. We still have that final bit of a chance to make meaningful films about WWII, one that conveys just what it was like using the accounts of vets, but it's never going to happen (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/frown.gif) Das Boot was really hard-hitting for me, a great dramatization of what the experience of being on a U-boat was like.. but Hollywood is just content to screw around with history - not just other countries' history, but their own, US history - and fairly soon these films are going to be one of the main sources of information kids have about WWII left - they won't be able to talk to their uncles or grandparents about their experiences like we have. I've never been much of a nationalist, I just think that it's a huge pity that we're missing this opportunity to impress on many kids just what the hell and conditions of WWII were.
Still, nice enough clip..
-
Quite true Duma, the sad thing is that kids will grow up thinking that the films are true to what really happened and that actual history is pure fiction. But it seems the usual trend that US films distort the truth just to get more US viewing figures. It's just a sad part of real life these days. They'll have the American's defeating the Romans next... (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

Jimbear i can understand why this gets you steamed..i thought saving private ryan was a great 'film' and i watched it as such.
lets remember our grandfathers fought together and would have ALL laughed at hollywood film portrayal of the war.even ones made during/at the end of the war
THEY ARE FILMS NOT DOCUMENTRIES REWRITING HISTORY!! (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

hell now dont be so hard on the limeys .they die in droves in every war till we get around to realizing we really have to help.
they stood up to the germans when they could have made a truce and were gonna fight them to the death.

Has anyone had a chance to see "Shooting War"
This is the new Speilberg compilation of combat footage that is now in limited release.
Speilberg put a crew together to comb the vaults, they came up with 500 hours of lost footage. Some of this film was shot by the best in the business(John Ford for 1). The end result is 90 Mins. of never before seen footage.
This is supposedly scheduled to be televised some time in August.

Superfly,
Thank you for the link to the trailer I am hoping for an enjoyable movie. It really cracks me up how this became a mini flame war between the U.S. and the Brits I am sure the majority of it is people just having fun.
I have to agree with Jim Bear on the Saving Private Ryan remark though, that to me was uncalled for. I was fortunate to see it opening day and the impact it left on my fiance and myself was staggering, the entire theater for that matter. To see a packed movie house silent as the screen went black tells me that Spielberg accomplished what he was looking to do and that is make us think of how horrendous war is, and have appreciation to those who payed the ultimate price for us.
-
Well a majority of the aircraft are the realdeal, maybe not the right model but its not replica. As for Russian dueing the restorartion Juzz.. what wrong with that. Its about as crazy as the US doing the restoration and the Russians restoration program believe it or not IS just as good as the USs and in some aspects MUCH better. I seen the Aviation museum in Moscow... better then most museums here in america. Sorry had to go off on that statement because heritage is in Russia.
Anyway, no matter what is said about it, SUPERFLY Thanks a billion for the info and I am probably going to see it 3 or 4 times anyway.. then buy the video.

I just thought it was strange that they would have A6M's in Russia. I know they did a whole bunch of I-16's and an I-153 for NZ, and alot of German stuff is coming out of Russia, that makes sense. But where did they get Zeros from?
-
juzz,
The last campaign the Soviets did in WWII was in Manchuria, where they crushed the Japanese army in China. That's probably where they got the Zekes.
-
Actually the landing on Saving Pvt Ryan was realistic, according to a documentary I saw on History Channel, the Normandy invation was divided into many beaches, each assigned to different countrys.
Omaha Beach was a landing point for the yanks. There were no brits there, they were busy fighting on another beach (cant remember the name) but I know it was kinda urban warfare.
So move on brits, Omaha was flowing with Yank and Hun blood, ONLY. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)
-
By the way, I cant find any trailer on that site.
Can someone link me to the correct site? if possible, directly to the clip!
