Title: Ding How
Post by: Greebo on August 06, 2023, 03:55:37 AM
This skin is an adoption of one originally done by T2MAW in 2011.

42-6225 was one of the first batch of olive drab camo'd B-29s off the production line and was issued to the 444th Bomb Group's 676th Bomb Squadron. Based in China in 1944 it was named "Ding How" by its crew, a popular Chinese expression that loosely translates as "everything's great" and that appeared as art on several US aircraft in this theatre. Captain Van Wingerden's crew flew eight "hump" supply missions and three bombing missions with this aircraft before getting a new B-29 they named "Wing Ding". This one however crashed on take off on its first mission, killing all but three of the crew.

Very cool.  I think the most common spelling is Ding Hao so this is an interesting take.

Actually there was a later NMF B-29 called "Ding Hao". That one force landed in Russia and was one of three used by the Soviets to reverse engineer the design into the Tu-4.
