It is December, 1942, and war rages along the entire frozen 1500-mile-long Eastern Front.  Among the many battles is the town of Velikiye Luki, an important railroad junction for the north.  As the Germans dug in for winter, the Soviets attacked with everything they had.  It came to be known as “the Little Stalingrad of the North.”

Join us for the Battle of Velikiye Luki.  Luftwaffe vs. Soviet VVS fighting for air dominance and attacking enemy ground forces at Velikiye Luki and along enemy lines of supply and reinforcement.

FW 190A-5’s, Bf 109G-2’s, Ju 88’s vs. La-5FN’s, Yak-9T’s, P-39D’s

Join us for glorious battle!

Haven't played in forever it seems, but going to see if home life can give me time to fly this one.  For some reason JG54 has been a favorite since my Airwarrior days :)

Gave me an excuse to make a kill board profile of my preferred kite for the scenario, a 9/JG54 109G2

A bit early for the La-5FN isn’t it?

Also a bit early for a 190A-5, but there's no alternative in either case.

What’s the difference in performance between a A4-5 vs the La5/La5FN?

Not different enough to matter.

Another thing is that we also need a scenario to fill up and need balanced capabilities side to side.

Most actual WWII air battles are not (without tweaks) balanced for AH play.  History often had unbalanced side numbers (like 2:1 or 4:1 or 10:1), or unbalanced types of aircraft (like Zeros vs. F4U's and F6F's, LaGG-3's and MiG-1's vs 109G's, Spit V's vs. 190A's, P-40's vs. 109's and 190's), or one side having to fly a long distance to the fight, or there being way more bombers, or Stukas, or Il-2's, etc. than fighters in the battle.

To deal with that, we make numbers more even side to side, boost percentage of competitive aircraft types, use available models of aircraft as substitutes, increase fighter:non-fighter ratios, move targets and launch locations closer together, and make one side's time to target similar to another side's time to target.

Good to see you Dan.

I wasn't planning on flying in this one but I might have to change my plans and wing up with you once again.

If you want to get sucked into a big fight with little chance of survival, then follow me!  Not that you don't know that's how it works when I'm around.  Erratic flying and almost sure death.  It's my method of operation :)

Much appreciated Lazerr.  That means you kill lots and I'll die slower as bait :)

Signed up for a P-39D/P-400. Always wanted to fly one of these in a historical setting.

I applaud you for that.
That's one of those planes that was despised by the Americans, and loved by the Russians.

Sweet!

Just to make sure:  We will be doing mostly ground attack, and not much air-to-air missions.

If that's to you liking, excellent.  If not, and you want to get into pure air-to-air, let me know.

Thank you for flying allied!  :aok
