I got HiTech's permission to skin some earlier 190's on our A-5. The A-2 and A-3 are now allowed.
Fw 190A-3 of 1./Jg 51 in September 1942. That month, I/Jg 51 transferred into the Fw 190 and deployed to the forward airbase at Lyuban, Russia to boost the air power near Leningrad in response to the Soviet offensive to break the siege on the city. This marked the combat of the 190 against the Soviets.
This 190 was flown by Günther Josten, who also was making his combat debut. He would wait until February 1943 to score his first victory, but would eventually be credited with 178 by the end of the war, while serving as commander of IV/Jg 51. He also served in the Bundesluftwaffe during the Cold War, ultimately reaching the rank of Oberst (equivalent to a USAF colonel) and commanding the 4th Air Division by the time of her retirement in 1981. He passed away in 2004.
Josten's 190 featured field applied green camouflage of RLM 70 and 71. Yellow theater markings include a narrow tail band, which would later be changed to a broad band above and below the fuselage insignia. Unit emblems were painted on the cowl and forward fuselage, a practice soon to be discontinued.
