Title: Arlo AWOL
Post by: nrshida on November 17, 2023, 06:36:18 PM
Arno hasn't been online in almost three months. I know he had some health problems. Anyone have contact via other mediums?

He probably got tired of being nailed for rule violations, and I agree... rules suck.

Don't think you can access PMs without logging in anyway.

We at VF-17 have been asking that same question. He hasn't been on our message boards since August 21. One of our members has sent him an email, but I haven't heard yet if he has responded.

I don't get an email when I receive a PM, so it may be a settings thing.

Could try contacting HiTech directly to ask for a phone number in confidence. Last known online dates are very close.

First thing I thought weeks ago. You may be right. If some of this drama stuff doesn’t go away I’ll be joining him. I already have 1 foot out.

I think there have been dramatic flareups on this board as long as I can remember.  Doubt it'll ever go away - it seems to be part of the nature of this community.   People will make their own choices, but I try to bear in mind what a loss it would be if AH went down and so try to keep a higher level outlook.  The board has some rancor; Hitech will never be able to please everyone, but at least for now it's still a worthy cause.   YMMV, of course.

I find this sort of allegation offensive.  That's OFFENSIVE, spelled correctly, with an S.

Arelow and I are great friends.  We may have had our disagreements in the past, but like all true friends, we have always been able to work through them, and when all else fails, hit the "report to moderator" button.

I don’t have much time for the forum anymore, so I couldn’t begin to speculate but there was a player using the call sign Arlo several months ago and for awhile. I assumed that was him but never asked… Anyhow, any “radioactive” member’s extended absence I’d consider to be concerning.

Curious about Arlo, I think he may have been put off about that guy stealing his RIP posts. I've been concerned he stroked out after his 7th "vaccine". Hoping he is alright. I've been wondering about Decoy as well.

Also, in game, I've been wondering where Atlau went... dude was obviously too good for the MA  ;)

Yeah. Those were groundbreaking threads.

I'm sure he's put off by almost everything.

If he did stroke out, thank god he was vaxxed. Could gave been so much worse. Like you might have gotten some cold symptoms one day.

There's probably a ton of stuff that Arlo and I disagree on, over the years, it could amount to a book the size of War & Peace.

However, we agree on the love and respect for the planes of World War I, World War II, and the men who flew them. And we agree on the love of both Aces High and Air Warrior. It's common ground, and he's my friend, whether we agree on much else, or not.

He's also a human.

So, yeah, I'm concerned by his absence. And I hope nothing bad has befallen him. If you can't have concern and compassion for a fellow enthusiast, maybe you should look in the mirror, the problem likely resides in who and what you see there.

I've known Arlo for 3 decades, regular AW player and Bigweek poster. I remember he had some issue affording to play in both sims, hard times. Hard times can bring out the worst in people,... if you're lucky they get humbled and ya get the best. Been there, done that, have all the t-shirts. He's probably been here since day one.

We gone at it many times in BW, oil and water, at times my middle finger wasn't big enough, we've had a few laughs, but he has been a part of my world so long that regardless I hope he is well.

That said, as someone else stated, I've seen people here go after him unprovoked, so no one is innocent. I've seen enough to know that as fact. I myself have been stigmatized by baby seals.

Not even close to the same situation.

Arlo was targeted by the IceCream forum morons, for who-the-hell-knows-why. Sure, his post were 99% useless, but they were harmless and not worth the vitriol hefted upon him by those tool bags. I'm not surprised at all he left.

You, on the other hand, got caught red-handed using another player's art without their permission and are still pitching a fit for being called out for it. Stop playing the victim. You're not fooling anyone.

In 2003 there was an Aces High con.  I met a lot of players including Robert Shaw (I have no idea if he was a player).  During this time a handful of us went to the nearby Cavanaugh flight museum.  Arlo was in this group, and he was very generous and kind person.  I hope he is doing well.

I've got a really funny story about him. I flew against him in my Ki-84 at the furball lake. Mouse (I didn't know who it was at the time) was flying a Spit9 and winging with another Spit9 when we were trying to have 1-on-1s. I called him a picker  :rofl

Arlo was a caustic troll which is why people reacted to him the way they did.  He wasn't an innocent victim and went out of his way to incite the vitriol.  I personally pretty much ignored him because he brought little of value to the conversations and the negatives were not worthy of encouraging by responding.   I hope he is healthy and found productive patterns of behavior to add value to his and others lives.

When he joined ice cream on Mars, he started off confrontational. And I pretty much begged him to try to post things that he enjoys and he's interested in rather than just try to be confrontational.
He wouldn't even do that. He wouldn't post things that he thought were interesting All he did was post stuff that he thought would be confrontational.

Both of those guys were the same. Just picked the controversies to stick to you and tried to paint everybody else as against them.

And they also didn't like the fact that people could react to them over there without being moderated. In other words they didn't really like people being able to defend themselves or to argue a point. Because they could not argue a point out of a wet paper bag.

Which N word? There's a couple. Can you be more specific.

Speaking of such things. I remember as a kid reading history books and seeing photos and movies with the swastika in it. Most of us knew that it was an ancient religious and cultural symbol that had been perverted by a political system that went off the rails. Now it's banned and hidden everywhere. Are people worried that somebody might see it and suddenly believe the same as the people of that party? Is it like Eric Blairs book? Are they trying to erase history? It's as bad as people thinking that the way they dress changes they XX or XY chromosomes. Is it mass mental illness?

But to carry it on for 6 mos and 150 posts about is an illness.  I’m NOT the only ne Mr. copyright Dud it to, he dies it to everyone including HT. Now take your foot out my butt and ignore me. Those two mutts also accused me of stealing Challengers sound, which I never touch and a LOT wished I could. So yes constant lies and buddy drama non-stop stigmatizes people, worse yet, firmer players puking all over paying players bbs. You’re on the wrong side of history. But thanks for making clear what you think of me bc of them. Shinny hook biter. You did exactly as dishonest brokers want. You torally proved my point.

Just because you had retroactive support from the others you stole from does not mean that you acted ethically. Dolby has every right to be pissed at you for stealing his work, even if his initial expression of that anger was heavy handed, in my opinion. But your response to it and continued false claims of being the victim have long become a total farce.

Oh, and I will not mute you. I'll probably need to set the record straight on this matter again later. Probably in another thread where it's irrelevant too.

We should petition Dale for a "purse fight" forum. For crying out loud, the drama here is ludicrous.

This was part of the program when I was still in active duty; "How to beat terrogranny with purse while so drank cannot get up from bench". Every new officer had to learn it.

AH bbs has a immaturity problem since day one.
Most thought to be just kids turned out are grown adults who should receive an award for totally evading maturity at all cost, and winning.

My post was on subject, and 100% truth. The thread proves it. Devil worship stirred the pot with a gutless remark of delusional history, probably a grifter worshipper.

Immaturity rolls on like a freight train here.

No wonder why they can’t hold a relationship. Obviously, I’m not alone in my observation. No one in their right mind wants a 60 yr old child to raise. Drunk 15 yr old girls who act more mature and can carry on a cognitive convo. I take that back, thats exactly what they act like.

Why on earth would I give 3 flying rats arses what some whack job in a game thinks about me? They could never handle what I have without a single in a chamber.

I’m fine with the game, the bbs is a kindergarten sandbox. This observation goes back to 2000 by the many who left.

When you very clearly make it known that your enemies are not individuals but rather a group(s) then one may not claim “unprovoked” status. You included as am I.  :aok

It is interesting that he has yet to respond. Hopefully family is visiting and he has no time for these shenanigans here.
