Bf 109G-6 flown by Manfred Dieterle of 3./Jg 300 in April of 1944.
Dieterle's aircraft was painted in an improvised scheme better served for combat at night, The underside was painted black with no insignia on the wings. The upper surface was painted in RLM 76, the typical underside paint for day fighters, with squiggles of RLM 74 gray green. The light colors on the top side helped the plane blend into moonlit ground, something that gave away the all black night fighters. The real plane was also fitted with a device on the engine exhaust that produced a distinct noise to alert ground gunners that a friendly plane was present. The dark red tail band of Jg 300 was painted around the fuselage. The side number and spinner spiral were painted in the squadron's color of yellow.
