Title: AH DirectX executables
Post by: Kini on December 16, 2023, 10:55:59 AM
AH installs both DX9 and DX11 versions of the executable. Outside of DX9 intended for older machines there any difference on using 9 over 11 on a current machine?

DX11 can get stutters and have blocky lighting.

I think you have to use dx11 if you're using vr

My old system had stutter issues with 11.  Wonder if the new system will run it better and is there any real advantage going to 11 from 9 (11 is two louder) besides VR which I do not have.

Before I got VR I always ran dx9. It seemed to be smoother to me.

What is DX9/11 for?  Is there a 12???   What has superseded it?

I've been running DX11 on Windows 11, new-ish Dell system. I've seen no issues.
That said, I'm now tempted to push 9 instead to see if any difference.
Glad to read good input. <S>

Same new dell, dx 11, NV RTX 3080...  and I've gotten very stable fps... and clarity compared to my older systems in years past.

My only whine is when you enable anti-aliasing in the game options the planes look smoother but icons fade out and become much harder to see.

Even enabling all the detail don't impact this card.

Yeah that happens to me with AA also.  Makes the icons much harder to see.

Have you tried changing the icon font size? Options>Preferences>GUI... To me it seems that some sizes don't scale as well as others with AA.

I had issues with icons and thats what I did. It was also on the map. Took me some time but found a honey spot. Took a vid card tweak too if I remember right. On my end it had to do with size.

I generally use (game) font size 24...   you can see the difference between aa/non-aa and then the aa with adjust fonts walking to max 30 which is way too visually interfering (big) for play and only brings a small visual increase.  Also, when i disable post lighting the icon becomes even a bit more clear than the second image.

Also, when in air the clouds will create an even dimmer icon with aa enabled.

I've even done a variety of tweaks with the card settings... no joy...

Not sure if this applies but I had the same issue because I was using the wrong frame rates with the wrong resolutions. I play on a 55” TV so I have to cap it at 50 FPS at the best resolution of 3160x2840. The game is super crisp for me.

I can drop it to 1920x1080 and get 120+ FPS but my 2060 cannot render that fast enough on my big tv anyway and it looks like your pics. I’m guessing this is what VR would look like for me.

I use dx11

With 43" HDTW 1920x1080, max graphic settings and stone age mill DX11 still works bit better. Some textures get slightly dislocated w/ DX9.

well I'm kinda stuck in a ditch with my monitor. It's only a 22" and getting tired, it only goes up to a refresh rate of 60. :(
Prolly why I have to do so much work with my videos to be smooth.

Over the weekend I kind of answered my own question by running both versions in main several times over the weekend. My system is less than a year old and runs the game well. When I fired up the DX9 version the only differe3nce I could see was latency would jump all over the place between -1.0 to +1.0 as regular as a heartbeat. But that could be my suspect Comcast connection. I am staying with the DX11 version even tho I don't have VR.

DX11 isn't just for VR, it's for all modern systems. As the title of the icon says "Aces High III DX11 and VR". And. Dx9 is for machines that can't utilize the advanced features of Dx11.
