Title: European friendly events?
Post by: artik on February 09, 2024, 02:26:56 PM
I noticed that scenario moved to 8PM EST since I played last time.

So from what I see there are no more Euro friendly special events any more?

More like there's not enough European players to cover the loss of players from the US and Australia who can't play at a European friendly time.

It's a simple numbers game. Prime time US gets more players.

Thanks. I understand.

BTW. Is there an ability today to host "user event" like once it was h2h up to 8 players?

Artik pretty sure that is still possible. Try setting up a custom arena, our squad uses it fairly frequently for training. They are under the "Player" tab.  :rock

artik maybe someone from europe should become a cm and then you could run events that ARE europe friendly! you might not get the numbers, but you could have some fun with it!

I have long considered running a Sunday event at UK/EU time, once per month. Basically, an hour Scenario (Snapshot) frame that has a rotating planeset. The ideas is that we chronologically move through the war in various fronts. So, Battle of Britain in January, Barbarossa in February, Torch/North Africa in March, etc. Of course, we could just run random events as well. The issue is, I am not sure how much interest there is and we would really need 30 people minimum to justify it. This puts all the Oceania/Asia people out and many US. My thought was around 8 PM GMT.

Might have to do it a few times to build up your players but there does seem to be enough if you go by what happens in here. If you do it on a Sunday you will probably get more non-euros to play too.

I would assume many would appreciate a European event schedule.

That would be fantastic.

I also agree small "Scenarios" like snapshots would be very good. Since they usually require much lesser numbers.

Currently there is no Euro friendly events at all and honestly I can't wake up at 3:30AM (my local time) for the scenarios - and they are actually the true highlights of AH

Yep, sounds good. If this materializes, I'll be the secret weapon of those I fly against.

AH had a bunch of Euro friendly special events. For example, one of the two weekly snapshots we once had ran at a very EU friendly timeslot. The problem is, they mostly just died because of a lack of attendance a long time ago.  :(

There have been a few events in the past, 2 or 3 if I'm not mistaken, that ran for 12 hours straight.   Unlimited lives, login whenever convenient for you, stay as long as you want, logoff and log back in later if you want.  I *think* these ended up being called "Target for Today" events.

If you folks do come up with some European events, make sure to advertise them as I'm sure there are plenty of North Americans such as myself who work odd hours and are more than likely awake for such events. I'd like to participate when possible.
My current work schedule is preventing me from flying MOTA and it hurts.

I think 8pm GMT is something 15:00 EST and 12:00 PST so at least it can be attended by US players, current events are in the middle of the night for Euro players

The time you highlighted isn't really Euro friendly. UK stars at midnight already borderline, than France, Germany are GMT+1 so it is 1AM and thanFinland is GMT+2 so it goes to 2AM... Not really useful.

But if you take London to 8PM or 9PM it becomes accessible from Europe at evening early night, US Midd-day and all even Australia/Pacific region accessible in morning that is actually something feasible during weekends.

I think 8PM GMT was the time Euro scenarios were held before.

Artik and All,

The special events team would "LOVE" to accommodate everyone and sponsor some great events.

We have had a ton of events over the years;

and a host of other events that are now gone with a high likelihood of never returning.

We can only produce what will be supported. Sure these events could have been supported.

We had CMs in Europe, but we have none now, or at least none that are active.

As evidenced in current times, No one is going to stay up and support a crowd of two.

Come with the numbers and more participation in what is currently being offered.

Currently, convenience doesn't lie on the side of Europe as it didn't for the APD region
for many years. Asia Pacific is still here with no signs of leaving and increasing in numbers.

We need to see the Europeans show up for what we are now offering.

Until then, the convenient play times need to go to those who are participating.

I know that doesn't sit well right now, but that is the truth.

We are not going to set play times in a European-friendly time zone for maybe 1 and a 1/2
players.

We hope the sacrifice will not be too much for you and others in your time zone to join us.

Hope to see you in the Special Events Arena.

 :salute

We had a KOTH specifically designed for Euro players that swareiam forgot to mention but it didn’t have the attendance to support it. Both KOTHs ended up deceased for lack of interest.  There was some but not enough to make a KOTH what they were supposed to be opposed to a half a dozen guys dueling.

Seems to me that Target for Today events could do the best job of providing everybody with at least a 3-4 hour window during a reasonable time-of-day, no matter where you live.

Quote
What is Target For Today?

Target For Today (TFT) are special large-scale battles that run a few times a year.  Each event is a battle that runs over a 9-hour period on a single day, and you can play whenever you desire during that period.  TFT's are usually themed on actual WWII aerial battles, have the similar plane sets as the actual battles, have a command staff on each side, and have objectives based on what the sides in the actual battles were trying to accomplish.

TFT's are like Scenarios except that they run on one day.

Also anyone like me that lives on the east coast 8pm gmt would be fine here at 4pm local.
