Title: Gen X has highest avg. IQ. That’s a fact.

Throughout the 20th century the average adult IQ increased slightly every year despite lead exposure. Then right around the year 2000 the adult average IQ started to decline. In other words when people born after 1980 we’re becoming adults.

Imho, there are many tasks and jobs, which should be based on IQ and skills. I've met highly intelligent IT engineer w/ university diploma, unable to pick parts from shelf based on serial number. And on the other hand a guy, who was bit smarter than an average rubber boot but extremely skillful carpenter. He was gentle and nice guy, good to have a chat with cup of coffee but conversations were slightly one sided.

In what demographic? Which countries?
That's a very generalized claim. Can you list your sources so we can see what this was derived from?
A population's IQ might go up and down simply based on immigration, for instance.
Are you talking about overall average IQ in the whole world? Even them, IQ tests and the sampling of people is not going to be consistent.

It's causing them more problems than it solves..
Not to mention the psychological damage as it gives ppl anxiety over their likes and friends...record folks on mental health meds these days..not a coincidence imo

I just want to see OPs sources that show IQs are dropping.
IQ and common sense are different things.
Also, if OP is saying that people born after 1980 are getting dumber - then isn't that on Gen X, who raised them? Maybe toejamty parenting? toejamty schools, toejamty politics - all controlled by Gen X

Good point. I'll never forget in the late 80's walking down the hall between classes at my high school and thinking as I looked around, this country is F'ed. I even thought that being no angel myself.

thought you were born in 64 the end of the baby boomer generation. gen x didnt start till 65.

There has been the Flynn Effect, of increasing IQ of people measured in various countries up to about the mid 1990's.
Then a continuing trend of decrease from the mid 1990's onward.
No one knows for sure why there was the Flynn Effect. Or why it reversed in the mid 1990's.

Has any of you been in IQ tests and if yes, do you dare to publish the results? I have it done twice.
First one at mid 90s in Finland, Mensa was searching new members in one book fair and made the test just by curiosity. Threshold for membership is 130 and I missed it with 2 points. Second was about 10 years later in Belgium, related to tasks I did at that time. Result was four points less than in first one, but I was still doomed smart enough not to be closed in a funny house. :banana:

I was in a class setting back in the 80's when the instructor asked "What is IQ". Mostly everyone was saying it is a measure of knowledge. My turn came and I said "it's the ability to learn". You'd have thought I poked a hornet's nest. No one outspoken agreed with me. I still think they were all wrong.

It's pretty normal for folks to mix knowledge and intelligence. They are two different things and you were the only one in the class who got it right.

Makes sense. But, those good in reasoning and figuring things out are also very good at learning, so I'd say there is a direct link.

What made you think that they were smart? Did you see their IQ test?
Level of education has nothing to do with IQ either. In fact learning isn't so much a sign of intelligence as it is memorization. And you can learn incorrect things. Intelligent people will reason on their own and come up with their own conclusions or understanding of something. Not just relying on what somebody taught you.
Applying reason and creativity of thought.

I did a couple of those and it seems those don''t have anything to do with problem solving abilities. If IQ can be determine by asking a bunch of random questions, I'm guessing it would depend who you asked what questions.

I'm really not sure that this is true. I knew a CTO who was one of the smartest programmers I've met. He wrote Linux drivers for a card he wanted to use that didn't have Linux drivers. He had a very difficult time navigating life and was always asking me for advice...
I don't think intelligence has has anything to do with wealth or ease of navigating life. I've met some really poor smart people and some really dumb ones that are rich due to stumbling upon something by luck.

Don't confuse IQ with Common Sense, I would say they are mutually exclusive. You also have to remember those out of basic training have been altered.

We used to joke that if you told a Marine to climb a climb with a steakknife in his teeth and kill the machine gun nest at the top of the cliff and and he would attempt it.
You tell that to a sailor and he'd go lock himself in the brig.

We all know at least some people who are very good at IQ-like tests, math, science, etc., but who are complete idiots with respect to the real world. And vice versa -- people who are very wise about real-world matters (making deals, interacting with people, knowing how some decision is likely to pan out in the real world) but who would do poorly on IQ-like tests.
For this reason, I think of "smartness" as being at least 2 numbers.
Like Dungeons and Dragons characters who have two stats for "smartness": INT (for "intelligence") and WIS (for "wisdom").
The writer Nassim Taleb also coined the term "Intellectual Yet Idiot" (or "IYI") about this situation.
IQ-like tests measure INT. They do not measure WIS.
Every time a person who has high IQ, or is good at math, science, or articulate speaking, feels that some policy would be great -- but you know the policy would be a disaster because of how the policy's incentives would fully play out in the real world, among real people, you are seeing an Intellectual Yet Idiot in action.

Dumbest dude I ever met, and the Smartest, were both Army.
Except for one AF guy. But he doesn't count because, well, he-ain't-right was about the only accurate way to describe him. Nobody could figure how he got through AF Basic (ya, because its SO hard) to the point we actually had conversations with the powers that be at Lackland... but he didn't make it another 6mo (booted for the catch-all "failure to adapt"). Pretty positive he was one of those High Functioning Whatchamacallits.
