Title: New IP Download Speed
Post by: Animl-AW on May 26, 2024, 09:25:13 AM
Not sure this should go in Bug Report page. Seems more of a server setting.

While downloading the 1.9gb file after install and manually downloading all maps, I noticed it’s a bit slow, at 1-2mb per second. It was about 5p, yesterday (25/24).

While I had time and it didn’t bother me, it may be a bit slow for others.

I don’t remember what it was, just seems slow now.

Maybe the internet provider got the 2GB upgrade mixed up with a 2MB upgrade? :bolt:

Ha! I knew something was around the corner.

I’m not by any stretch an IT type guy, but I think it’s how one allocates bandwidth on a server.

You prolly already knew this.

HT probably throttles the download speed if he is hosting all of this at this private system at home. If you had sudden spikes in gameplay due to people downloading it wouldn't be a good time.

I know there's some balancing going on. Just in case there's head room left.

Not balancing, shaping. Normal way to do it is you reserve bandwidth for important stuff/real time services like gaming or voip, then dynamically allocate the reminder depending on priorities.

If you do the numbers 2Gb is heaps. Remember AH used to (actually probably still does) run off dial up, which was at most 56kbps. If you got generous and said 256kbps per user, reserving for 300 users gives you 75Mbps.

Something is not right, I tested some downloads (skins and game) and get to a peak of around 40Mbps then it drops down to between 16-20Mbps.

I have a rough understanding, pretty much what you stated.

DLing 1.9g from BigR cloud it was done in 20-30 sec, through game it took over 30 min.

I’m not complaining, just making note.

When I was DLing terrains it was literally 1-2mbps on my end, according to the data shown. Its slow. It’s also new, tweaks come in time.

Kinda sounds like complaining to me.

if it has anything to do with comcast, they throttle downloads!

Its xfinity, but 1.9g file from BigR only took 2-3 min.
In AH a 300mb terrain took the same time.

I got everything, it took time I had to spare. Won’t need it again. Was thinking of others with less patience.Maybe discouraging new/return players.

That would matter if I cared what you think.
You see ghost that aren’t there because you choose to see ghost that aren’t there.

Going kinda sad, maybe you should’ve hired a subcontractor.
